Hi Everyone -Lily's LONG intro (and mine)

Post by PBShelley »

INTRO
Greetings all,

Apologies in advance for the length...
I've spent the past few weeks lurking and getting to know all the members here and have greatly enjoyed reading of your exploits, experiments and adventures! I hope that the following isn't too indulgent; indeed, I expect that I should be begging yours for subjecting you to it :)

This hobby (I suspect that is what it is going to become LOL) is an entirely new and unexpected source of happiness for me. Before a month ago, I thought all dolls were of the blow up variety, and not much more than party novelties. When I heard the Howard Stern story a while back I KNEW there had to be more to it than just vinyl. But the few pics I could find were just of cheap looking vinyl things. Then recently I came across the picture of a porn star holding open the pussy of a RD (I think it was a RD)and my jaw dropped -it took me a sec to determine which was the actual doll! I mean, it *really* dropped! And I thought, "Hm, yes, well that looks intriguing as hell!" So once I found where to look, I began checking it all out and I'm still absorbing LOTS of new information and am currently in a state of Information Overload. If I ramble a bit please excuse  Here goes...

TERA CONVERTS ME
I just received my Tera Patrick doll (first inflatable) and am totally blown away by how much I enjoy her! And I haven't even "done it" with her yet! Her mouth is just amazing, and I was surprised at how kissable her lips were; I had no idea that cuddling with one could be so satisfactory. Since it was, I was able to (suddenly) come to the decision/justification about buying a RD. I wasn't sure about how comfy it could be sleeping with an unbreathing life-sized "woman" but last night with Tera was so delightful that I knew I needed to do this.
I never expected to ever describe *any* mood of mine as being "gleeful" but damned if I wasn't! Fucking GLEEFUL! Huh!

PAYING'S A BITCH
I had tried for days to come up with a financial plan to make it work, but that damn "I" word (Interest) just made the purchase a bit too steep for me in the long haul. I found this Forum and was lucky enough to read a thread about the poster's query for advice as to financing a RD. The answers I read impressed me very much; you are such a diverse group of intelligent and reasonable persons (as can be humanly expected LOL), and I am grateful for the VOLUMES of information I've gotten here. That financing thread certainly gave me some much needed food for thought. This isn't a frivlous expenditure. It's even more than an investment; beyond that (not that they could be investments anyway). What Matt has provided for us is like Fantasy Fulfillment; whatever we want her to be... and THAT is something. These Dolls are indeed works of art, I have no compunctions in saying.

UNTAPPED RESOURCES
Anyway, I found I couldn't deal with loans so I started thinking about HOW I could get the funds. And then I saw my "X-Men" DVD staring at me going, "Hellooo!" And it struck me like a hammer. Do I really NEED all of those comic books any more?? Just a photo of a RealDoll makes it an almost rhetorical question, let alone having one in real life.
So I'll just start with "X-Men" number 1 and go till I get enough to cover the Doll! Then I can replace the money in my (rapidly diminished) savings account. All it took was one final thought: Well, would I trade my first ten X-Men (collected and loved since they came out) for a RD?
Oh hell yes! I mean real quick. I guess I never saw anything worth even considering selling them for.
Either they go or The Hulk goes LOL, I want to bring Lily here!

"THE DECISION" DECISIONS
Which brings me to here: I just placed my order for Lily through Abyss (like there's any other way LOL). So I thought I'd pop in here and say Hello and thank you, and I hope you look forward to meeting her half as much as I do!
It was a convoluted path in coming to decide on her though. After MUCH research in the Matrix and RealDoll Doctor (oh God all the pictures! 8O ), I still could not decide on a face I wanted (for I hadn't thought of using Lil yet) and the more photos I saw... well, you know. I was just looking for anything I liked, and I liked, well, it felt like all of them! Each face has its own charm, but I was totally stuck between #'s 4, 7 and 11. At this point I still wasn't sure of what I wanted my dreamgirl to look like.

LILY'S GUILT TRIP
And then I started feeling guilty because I wasn't working on finishing the story I've been writing since forever. Immediately then she appeared to me: the heroine of my story! It should have been obvious for me to pick her; I'm surprised that it hadn't occurred to me at the start. I already love her as a character, and now I can have a RD to actually "be" her! Wow! Sometimes Modern Life doesn't suck so much after all! :D
Oddly (and incidentally) enough, there were several complex scenes in my book where I needed to have a gf help me with postioning (arms, legs, mouths etc), but for one reason or another (!) we'd go "off script" and never did finish any. So when I first saw the RD site and read that the dolls were posable my first thought was "Hm, I could get one to help with the positioning problem". (See how quickly the rationalizing begins!) It didn't occur to me that I could make the doll look like I imagined Lily to look like. And in this I could use a fair degree of latitude since I'm not basing her on a picture, just my description of her in the story, and someone I've "known" quite well, since I created her.

FACE THE FACE
So I used the configurator to check each face type out, asking, "Who is Lily?" And I was surprised to find it was 11 (thought she might be 4). I did that with each segment of configuring and when I was done came up with: Body 7, Medium, Black Hair style 5, light blue eyes, natural shadow, blue and light liner, French, Black/Natural pubic, and lips...
Hm... you know, originally I thought that her lip color would most likely be natural, since she's a pretty down to earth character. But after seeing Tera's lips... color really brings out their fullness that Natural only implies, if you get my meaning. I justified picking Plum Lip Color by telling myself that it's just Lily-at-her-day-job look. :D I really am not sure how that will look; it's so hard to tell from pictures what that color combo will really look like...
My first question (of many, I am sure!): Please impart to me the Wisdom of Natural lips vs Color... Best for natural so you can apply your own choice of colors, or fixed with one color that is on for good? I always thought I preferred natural lips; now I don't know. Tera's lips are very pretty.

GEORGE IS ON MY MIND
God, I've gone on for far too long. Apologies, and thank you for reading this far. Just a few more items...
I am very thankful for George 66/67 posting the pics from Abyss and his detailed questions and resulting answers. You ALL have been most helpful in so many ways; my mind is boggling with all of the advice and tips! (That was another strong influencing factor, this strong community.) So George, here's a little something back: I noticed from the link to your Inspiration for your lovely Emma (well, she will be lovely, won't she? ): For an uncanny lookalike, I mean, uncanny! Find the ALSScan site. A model there named Leona is the spitting image! And, I can vouch for this site, I subscribed before so they are honorable. It is a pay site, but I think you can access the pictures of the models for free, I hope. Too bad they are all shaved  But Leona is a beauty. (Um, need I add, she's real :D )

DAMN! WRAP IT UP ALREADY!!
I was going to mention a couple of outstanding dolls, but there are so many beauties, and as we all know, so much of what makes a person (or doll) beautiful is from inside, and I hesitate on singling any of them out. No doubt each of these ladies (and, um, I guess guys?) is precious in their own right to their respective "owners".
That being said, when the heart is jolted, the voice must speak: I'd just like to say that I was *fascinated* with Sidore, just really enjoyed her shoots and her site :D She almost seems real to me. I also have a soft spot for Taze as well. But really, there are TOO MANY beauties!
Also, Inkling's Darlene was very close to Lily when I first saw her pics. Ingrid too... Funny, I remember feeling something like "That's how Lily looks" but didn't consider her for a "model" for my RD despite the fact that Lil has occupied most of my attention over the past several years.
And finally, I hope to God that Lily's eyes turn out to be as effective as Cassie? I think that is the Doll... (you should see my notes LOL!). Those eyes were just amazingly realistic... are they Guy's eyes?

SLEEPING PUSSY
Well, I'd better close, my energy is waning (didn't sleep much last night with Tera's first "sleepover" ), and I'm sure your patience is too. It's good to make your acquaintances!
[Hm, I just noticed my cat has taken a liking to Tera, curled up against her side on the bed (she's in a pair of pajamas that I have finally found a use for) (Tera, not the cat)... I just checked and all her air is still intact (the Doll's), but is there a danger that animals (say a jealous feline) can damage the inflatable type dolls? Her outer shell wasn't filled, but still... who wants to take a chance on a $250 doll? Not I!]

AND THE OUTRO
This site has done a great job in dispensing all manner of important information. Keep up the fantastic work! Thanks to you and to everyone else helping to make this an interesting and unique (duh!) hobby :D

Regards,
PBS

Wow PB, 8O
Step away from the computer and take a slow, deep breath.

I understand your excitement very well. When I found out about these wonderfull dolls, I was awe-struck also. They are very pretty, and very realistic. I agree heartily on your opinion of Sidore. If Davecat were ever to sell her, I think I'd take a second mortgage on my house to get that exotic beauty.

Like you, I am a writer, wanting to see your lucious leading lady in 'person', is another thing I fully understand, hence, my avatar. My third book, Twighlight's Princess, is slated to come out early next year. In my case, I need a few extra props to make a doll look like my Samantha.

Deciding on a single doll it not easy, given all the lovely creations currently available. I had a check written to Harry for a Sweet-18 doll, (GOD, they are cute!), but paused long enough to ask myself- is she EVERYTHING I want? I also came very close to buying an older Superbabe, but again, I hesitated a bit too long. For me, this is a major purchase that I will have a long time. Hell, when I bought my Ford Ranger, I keep it for 15 years. My F-150 is a youngster, it's only 4 years old now.

As for colecting the funds, my quest for a doll has led me to look for ways to save money. Drinking, don't do it any more, which also saves the cash from those lap-dances. Smoking is now strictly roll-your-own, which is a pain in the ass, hence I smoke conciderably less. Your might say that wanting a doll is actually good for my health!
I have some things worth a few buck, but I'm not sure I want to part with them.

Anyway, Congrats on your Lily. Be sure to post some pics when you get her!

OK as an owner of this doll, I feel pleased by this story.

I own a Realdoll as well as a Tera. You might be surprised to hear that Tera has some advantages over a Realdoll, as well as costing less than a tenth the price of a Realdoll.

Realdolls are both robust (very strong skeleton and joints) and fragile (face; eyelashes, make-up, lips, and finger wires -- although these are stronger now than when I bought Rebecca in 2000). They are also extremely heavy. You cnnot change their position in bed like you can with a Tera.

Even though I am very low paid (compared to the average here in Britain) and she is the most expensive thing I have ever purchased, my Realdoll Rebecca is definitely a worthwhile investment.

For more info see the 'Report' section of Rebecca's web site, but bear in mind that the new Realdolls are a tad lighter and stronger than Rebecca:
Rebecca

That poster asking for finance advice was me. And yes, the responses helped me more than I could say :D Glad you decided to post, and keep up updated on Lily's progress!

 Okay, having had a good rest and several deep breaths I'm still feeling quite enthused; I suppose it's like discovering a lovely, enticing, secret world that hadn't been discovered before. So yeah, I'm still in the "wonder-struck" stage. It's a nice stage to be in

Hm, I guess this Forum doesn't allow for individual replies, so I'll respond this way? Please suggest if other methods are better to use.

MYTIME: thanks for the link, but I beat you to the punch! I saw them some days ago :D In fact, your postings in the Other Dolls forum were most helpful whilst I was nervously awaiting Tera to come (long and almost-ugly story, but it took her three weeks to arrive). Ramsdale helped also... HEY, is his site down? I can't reach it now?! Anyway, I guess I need to keep my Tera queries/comments in that Forum, don't want to tick anyone off
I note that you are from the Netherlands, I am a major fan of Gruppo Sportivo and Robert Jan Stips (the Nits, I think, not to mention the great Supersister!) Do these names mean anything to you? I could have sworn they had a song about a "rubber dolly" but I can't go through all of those records right now  They do have one tune called "Shave" that would probably be amusing to most of us here

EVERHARD: Yes, I've been checking out your pics as well and were among the first ones I saw. Hard to remember with all of the ones I've seen lately (not even counting CoverDoll LOL). But I recall thinking about the pic of Rebekah (with the Russian-like hat against the mountain backdrop) looked like a genuine still from a newscast, or something. Very convincing.
Also, the set includes some pictures where her expression is very Kate Bush like. This is really hard to express, but a couple of shots brought her to mind. Which is always a happy thing  Hers is one of the most beautiful and exquisite faces ever, IMHO.
But yes, I figure that these are two different dolls as far as purposes go. At this point, Tera will be just fine for "rolling around in the hay" with. Lily is more difficult to explain. I'd be happy just to see her, and dress her and lie with her, and take pictures; but there's already an emotional involvement with her character. So this will be an interesting experiment, in more ways than I can readily (or capably) explain here.
But your photos have helped me a great deal in seeing the various other shots you've included. Very informative, and thank you :D

RAINY: Thanks, I am happy to be a part of your group! I'm not really a "joiner" but you all are so great at sharing information and helping out (as in your posts I referred to) and not immature. So I feel that I'm in good hands :)
I hope you can get your doll; I imagine it must be frustrating and believe me, I almost went the loan route. But I have "issues" with loan companies and just forms in general LOL... so I was feeling pretty despairing of ever owning one. The thought of the actual long-term costs were just impractical for me given my uncertain job status. That's why I made the hard decision to part with valued items. It's a trade of one desire for another. Better that than going into debt (if one can't hang with the financing).
Anyway, keep saving those nickles

KEITHALLEN: Good to see another writer here :D I haven't submitted anything for publication yet (this will be my first attempt), so I don't truly feel entitled by that title except by the loosest definition. I have been writing one thing or another since age 11 though. But I also can't feel guilty about defining myself that way because of all the work I've done on this book (340 pages with around 50-75 to go). So we'll see whether I am or not fairly soon, I suspect

Congratulations on your upcoming release! Re: your avatar, Do you have a RD that you make up to look like Samantha or is that a "Photoshopped" image? Are those tiny horns on her head? (I couldn't quite tell, and am afraid to go "Back" and check in case I lose what I've already typed here!) Forgive me if they're not  Anyway, I'll keep a lookout for it. She looks like an interesting character!

I have been doing a LOT of researching over the past month though and so have come to understand which dolls are suitable for what my needs are. Right now, realism, cuddling and "company" are high on that list. Sex can be had lots of different ways, but this is as close to having a real person with you as it can get. I don't want to criticize any other doll-makers, because I appreciate their efforts as well, and I imagine that the hearts of many are attached to their ladies as well. But for realism, Matt's dolls can't be beat. The delineation on bods 6 and 7 is amazing.
I'll have to re-visit Harry's... I've checked out every realistic doll site I could find and can't recall his, was it like a young japanese girl? Or was it the blonde schoolgirl looking doll? I do recall the name.
Like I've said, I've seen many many pictures lately. What you all have had years to look over I did in like two weeks! 8O *glaze*

I found that quitting smoking a few months ago (*twitch*) saved me a LOT of money. I've cut everything down to a ridiculous amount. When I'm writing I don't go out except for necessities and that's it. It's pretty hard but I've got to get the book finished and sent off so that I can start looking for work. Unemployment is around 9% so I'm really hoping that writing is my calling. If I can make $1400 a month I can live comfortably. As a published writer, do you think that is a reasonable expectation? I've got several books about the business and the payment schedulings are curiously scattershot, it seems.
You can see why it had to be "The X-Men" going, or waiting forever for the money to come to me. Kind of a bummer though that Lily won't get here until AFTER the book is finished :(
Of course, I suppose it can always go through another revision until she gets here. I rewrite like mad... (not that you'll ever be able to tell from my posts! ) If I had my druthers I'd take another six months on it. But I really have to consider earning wages real soon! (Long story mercifully omitted.)

Anyway, thanks for responding. A digital camera has recently been added to my "gotta have" list, and I will anxiously begin The Long Wait...

Welcome to our "family" PB,
congratz. for your ordering.I am pretty sure that Lily will be amazing. And if you can get that Cassie 's eyes look, then she will be gorgeous!!!!! :D :D .I am very interested to see your doll images(after four months)because i thing that a brunette face 11 is a very beautifull combination.I was in the delimma to order Nicolina (face 11)as a brunette to, because i liked the combination of lite eye color and dark hairs. Here is an image from my gallery, manipulating JENNYS FACE

great pic, thanks!

Post by PBShelley »

SD,

thanks for the welcome :) Wow I liked your pic so much I voted for it. She is pretty! kinda Angelina-ish :D That hair style is actually how I described Lily's hair in the story, but wig number 5 is the closest I've seen to this style from what I can tell from the configurator. Her hair should look "wilder" as in your pic, but I also like the bangs especially in #5. Lily doesn't spend a lot of time at the mirror, but she is naturally beautiful.

The eyes will be tricky, I can't imagine them against the features I've picked. I have some flexibility, but her eyes have to be a very unusual blue. That can be either light or dark, but I suspect it will have to be custom. I am going to ask for the Guy's eyes, but the shade of blue will be very important. I'll have to find a photo. Too light and she'll seem like an ice princess, and she should appear warm; sweet, but subtly sad. I'm not asking too much am I
But I do really like the light blue/dark hair combination myself. The contrast would serve the story well, and that light blue IS pretty unusual :!: They shouldn't look too grey though; when you look at her eyes, they should scream BLUE! I know, not a warm color, but that's how she is!

I enjoyed your pics of Nicolina in the Doll Album, that smiling X-face actually got a smile out of me. I am tempted to get smiling face too for Lily, but not sure if it will be like I imagine her smile to be. (I've "lived" with her for about seven years, so I know her pretty well.)
I'll buy a digital camera before she comes home, but they'll probably be R-rated pics LOL... I don't think she's that kind of girl  But I'll ask her. She's pretty understanding, so we'll see.

Thanks again,

PB,
I can just see your fingers racing over the keyboard

My Avatar is from my book cover, which is in my folder of the member's gallery. No, I don't have a life-sized Samantha yet, but she is a horny little......

As for writing as a sole job, don't count on it right away, and be prepared to face MANY rejection letters. Before Wolfheart came out, I crashed & burned with a previous book. I can't even count how many times I was rejected! (Stephen King was rejected 19 times his first time out) Writing is alot of hard work, and you have to pour out your soul and develop a thick skin. The biggest thing I can tell you is DON'T GIVE UP, and do not take rejection personally.

If you want to PM me, I might be able to point you towards some groups & agents who'll give you a hand.

Thanks keithallen,

My fingers don't race  I never learned to type. I do it the old-fashioned way: Hunt-and-peck. You'd be surprised how "fast" you can get :!:

Thanks to Sol Stein's two books and Stephen King's wonderful "On Writing" I have a pretty realistic expectations-set. Brutal truth, but it is so important to have a long-term philosophic/strategic plan in place, which I think I do, and the abovementioned helped me to do that.
This is such an important project for me that I determined long ago to self-publish if I had to. I did not want the pinheads in control of the BUSINESS to have anything to do with determining the fate of my book. If it is good enough in the self-publish market, they will come asking for it. And I'll probably get better terms  But we'll see.
I have pretty serious hostility issues toward both the publishing and music industries and the arrogant way in which they treat aspirants. It is disgusting 8O -But I'm willing to adapt my views, up to a point.
And my skin is plenty thick
But thank you, I will PM you later on. Very kind of you to offer.

Anyway, I am about to call Abyss regarding my order and will be back later with something resembling a confirmation I HOPE!! I'll post Lily's full stats and confirmation in a separate thread.
Thanks for reading!

err, guess I have to wait for confirmation too!

I guess I can't confirm Lily's spot until I get confirmation after they receive my payment. So that's another week from now, at least :( And I didn't even get to talk to Debra or ask any questions, so everything's in limbo 'till then. mailing the deposit tomorrow...
