Storing Wigs when not in use...

Post by Hollywu »

Do you suggest getting some of those little styro foam wig heads to store the wigs? If so, I really need to get off my duff and finish cleaning out the closet so I can keep my girl's wigs on some of those in there... :D

I put my girls wigs in to wig nets and then ziplock bags, this is how the usually arrive.

Also stuffing a wad of tissue or soft paper balled up inside the wig before you pack them works well too.
The only reason you would need a styro head is if you have a specially high up styled wig. Like marie antoinette or something like that.

I can second the suggestion about using ziploc bags. I use the bags my wigs came in. They are never distorted, or misshapen as a result.

I use a large tupperware container to store them when they're bagged, and I just slide it under one of my doll's chairs in their closet.

I too use ziplock bags for my low and medium quality wigs. For any wig over $200, I would use a quality wig stand.

That's an excellent idea Hostage. Anything that doesn't have to take space up on a shelf or the floor is more space for more fun accessories.

Thanks so much for sharing all the great ideas! Next question on wigs... What places do you suggest buying them from? I had heard amazon so I went with them and have ordered 6. Any other good places? None of mine I ordered are super expensive. Has anyone found any used ones that were decent and could be washed?

I had good success with http://www.wigsbuy.com

It takes a few weeks but the prices are good on synthetic and they are packed carefully.

heya!

You can use just about anything to store a wig... Personally, I am frugal and use empty coffee tins with a wad of tissue paper to hold the shape. Using a hair net is a definite must to prevent static and tangles, and PLEASE, use a dust cover. Always remember to brush/comb your wig out before AND after use.

Just my 3 cents worth... Cheers

I use these hat racks:

You can keep adding more rings to the bottom, as long as your door/wall is tall enough. Since wigs are floppier than hats, I use soft clips to attach the wig to the ring.
