Re: Photos of Lena
Great work.
I like Lenas eyes in the animation. It really looks like she's moving them!
Interesting with the green screen cloth. I've noticed that you and Lena do a lot of green screen shoots with great success. Is that just a normal green cotton sheet your using or is it some special fabric?
I only recently tried a green screen shoot but then I used a green scarf I had laying around. It only worked so-so. I think I will get some bigger and less wrinkled one for next time.

About the green wand, it is made of polyester fabric. It is really heavy and wide ( i think 3 x 4 Meters) so i have to fold it.
I sometimes used it to cover the photo area as you can see in this very old picture:
It is important that the textile does crease less to zero, and you provide strong and even lighting.
Finally you can reduce your cutting time a lot if you have a good color contrast from the object to the background.
So, the green color is sometimes not sufficient, which then results in heavily annoying edit work to do.
I often use a white wand. Or if she wears dark clothes, i use light blankets and vice-versa.
After all, i had not that much success with the green wand for some reasons.
I currently only use 2 small-sized LED photo lights.
It is generally good to use 2 or even more lights to eliminate the shadows.
The size of the reflector is important too.
But better you use a Softbox like this:

I have one, too. But I never tried it at Lena's room since the refurbishment.

I can't believe how plain i looked at this picture...hansdampf21 wrote:

When looking at your setup I can see that lightning is probably the thing I need to improve the most (besides getting a better backdrop). Because I got lots of shadows around Emma from the flash that made the "green elimination" difficult due to all the different color shades.
I really love this picture
She looks super focused to maintain the pose and wait for the shutter to go off
And the reflection in her eyes. Top notch!
Well, still cute though!Lena21 wrote:I can't believe how plain i looked at this picture...hansdampf21 wrote:

There's one thing i have learned about using a flash: always try to avoid it.
If your Camera has the option to mount a permanent photo light, this may be sufficient. But can also lead to unwanted reflections.
I think if you can afford two Softbox studio lights you'll be good to go.
For a smaller setup you could also try the LED lights i'm using.
They include a small stand and adapters for a standard mount.
Yes, of courseSofos wrote: Well, still cute though!

Re: Photos of Lena
Your green screen info is really interesting too, I've never tried a green screen because I tend to prefer 'as shot' photographs but I can see that it could come in really useful at times, competitions and such. I do use two softboxes with permanent lighting in them. I don't have any flash equipment except what's built in to the camera. I might try playing around with green screen now I've seen your work, it looks interesting.
Best wishes to you and Lena from Hanna and myself.

Lena is now somewhat exhausted from all the work and needs to rest a little bit

Lena was shot from above. It was hard to get her in the right position for the photo. Glad that it finally kind of worked.
As for the background: i took a cropped image of an earth shot from the NASA picture archives.
For the surf board i've used the shape of an an actual surf board image, and GIMPed the metallic effect onto it.
Finally i introduced a Supernova, which throws it's light stripes onto Lena, and also adds nicely to the blue light of the earth's atmosphere.
With much love,
