how to correctly report forum abuse to management

Post by B3F11dolly »

We all want this forum to be a peaceful place where everybody can enjoy dolls, but there are also violations of forum rules, and some people will join from time to time trying to bother us. Again and again I notice a lot of people, especially new ones, don't know what to do if there's something wrong. This mostly ends in a mess like "it happened in chat last Tuesday, ask xyz he was there" or "I never had the idea to ask for help because of that". So I made a list of the most common problems and what to do...

So here it goes

how to correctly report forum abuse to management

malicious comments in posts :
situation :
You just found a post from a member that contains a comment that you mind, for example you feel insulted by a comment about yourself, your doll or whatever, and the more you think about it, the more you mind the statement, and you want it removed.
what to do :
Contact a person from forum management that you have trust in. This could be a moderator responsible for the forum section where the comment is, it could be any super moderator or any administrator. The difference between a moderator and a super moderator is that super moderators can edit on any forum section, whereas moderators just can edit on their section.
how to report :
Send a private message to management. You have to give a link to the thread, and the name of the poster, so that management will find it quickly. Tell what statement you mind and why. The person you contacted will now review the thread, and if he/she decides that the comment violates forum rules, it will be removed.

bad behavior in the chatroom :
situation :
An other person in chat has made comments that you mind, for example about you or your doll, or you feel like there is a troublemaker that just joined to bother people ...
what to do :
Look at the list of members in there. If there is somebody with "admin" (A) or "moderator" (M) in front of the chat name, complain immediately. Note that persons can do private talk in chat. So if it happened in private talk, don't forget to mention this.
how to report :
If no chat admin is present or if it happened in private talk, you can copy and paste the chat conversation to a private message and send the text to a member of forum management. The person contacted does not have to be chat admin himself. Every member from forum management can post the text on the management forum for you. Forum management will judge what happened and if necessary, the member will get a warning or the account will be banned.
If you didn't have the time to do a quote or if you forgot about it, nevertheless report things to management. Give the name of the member you complain about AND the approximate time AND the chatroom AND if it was in public or private talk. Every member of management can inform a forum admin to check things.

copyright infringements :
situation :
Somebody took your pictures and posted them elsewhere, or he pretends it is his doll, or somebody altered your pictures and you mind this, or somebody uses your doll’s picture as his avatar picture...
what to do :
Normally persons should ask for allowance to use another person’s pictures, thing is called copyright. If somebody didn’t ask and you would have given no allowance, or if somebody used a picture despite you didn’t want it, tell forum management about it.
how to report :
Contact forum management and tell where the infringement took place, that’s give a link to the post or album where somebody uses your picture, and tell the name of the person that did it. Also tell if the picture was used without asking, or although you told that person not to do it. Depending on where the picture is, in a post or in the doll album or gallery, this will either need a moderator or an album or gallery admin to remove it.

spamming :
situation :
You get uninvited private messages from other members, telling you to do something or not to do it, like to buy a certain type of doll, instead of buying another kind of doll, or telling you that a certain company is better than another company or whatever it may be...
what to do :
Nobody, neither members nor manufacturers or members of companies, are supposed to privately contact members to spam. If you get private messages that you consider to be a spam, contact whoever within forum management. Private messages are what the word says : private. So forum management won’t notice spamming until somebody reports about it.
how to report :
Tell the name of the member that send the spam. Copy and paste the whole spam text, and send a copy to forum management. This can be any member from forum management, they can all post the spam on the management forum. Management will decide if it is spam or not, and the member will get a warning, and if he doesn’t stop, he will be banned from the forum.

porn pictures or videos :
situation :
The Dollforum has to be in accordance to the law where the website is hosted. Due to the legal situation, forum management decided to not accept porn content, neither in the doll album nor in the member gallery. Our definition of “porn” is that it’s not allowed to show real people or certain organs of them, neither alone nor during sex with dolly.
what to do :
If you find porn, report it to forum management. You can contact any member from forum management, but best contact an album or gallery admin, because it will need one to remove it. Our album admins review the content on a regular basis. As porn content could get the forum into trouble, report it nevertheless, so that it will be removed as quickly as possible. This is especially true for pictures that might possibly look like showing underage persons or dolls.
how to report :
Contact forum management, best an album admin. Give the name of the member owning the album, if necessary, also give the sub-album where you found the picture. If management considers the content to be against rules, it will be removed immediately.

avatars and signatures against rules :
situation : Browsing the forum, you saw a member post who uses an avatar or signature line that seems to not be okay with forum rules. This can be because it is insulting or because it's political or whatever. Every avatar or signature breaking one forum rule is not okay.
what to do :
If you mind that avatar or signature badly, and you want it removed, or you at least want a member of management checking if this is okay, you can contact all moderators or admins to report it. However, access to account data like avatars or signatures it will need a forum admin with access to admin panel to remove it.
how to report :
Contact a moderator or best an admin. Give the name of the member. That will be enough to find the avatar or signature. Also tell why you mind it and give the number of forum rules that you think got violated.

website got hacked :
situation :
You notice that the content has changed in a strange way, or that the website is obviously hacked, or you notice that you get spam emails since you joined, or whatever fishy you may notice when visiting the forum...
what to do :
Contact a member from forum management. Some hacks are hard to notice, for example we had a hack of the registration for new accounts and members got spam afterwards... this is about where forum management consisting of long time members will notice last, so we need members to report it. You can contact anybody from management, best a server admin.
how to report :
Describe what you think is not correct, and why you think so. Also tell where you think the hack is located, for example by giving a link to the URL of the site in question.

eBay phenomena :
situation :
This one especially refers to the "for sale" section. Sometimes we get guests from eBay who successfully scammed over there by selling dolls that don't even exist, and they want to try here as well...
what to do :
If you think you found a for sale post that is a scam, for example because you notice a RD number given that can't be correct, or because you notice the seller shows a picture that does show somebody else's doll, contact forum management.
how to report :
Send a link to the for sale thread that you consider to be a scam. Explain why you think this post can't be for real. If you recognize dolly's picture from elsewhere, also give a link to where you saw the picture before. If management considers it to be a spam as well, the thread will be locked with a warning, or it will be removed.

pedophile contents and pedophilia discussion
situation :
You browse the Dollforum or the Dollalbum and find contents that you consider to be pedophilia, or you're not sure about it. This can be in posts or with pictures. Accoding to forum rule number 1, it is stricktly forbidden to post underage material, no matter if it's written text or a picture, or a real person to be seen, or a doll.
Also, the discussion about pedophilia is strictly forbidden, see the new wording of forum rule number 3, listing pedophilia and the discussion about it as forbidden contents.
what to do :
The Dollforum having to obey to legal rules is especially true for underage material, which is not tolerated at all, so forum management also depends on members reporting such a violation of rules. Moderators can't read it all, and the sooner this gets removed, the better. So if you find such contents, inform forum management immediately.
To be against pedophilia should be common sense and it's not needed to mention it in every post, nor can this forum be a place to discuss the problem. Instead of posting and starting an endless discussion not belonging here, better inform forum management.
how to report :
If the content in question is written text in a post, you can inform whatever super moderator or admin you trust in, best one you see logged in right now. Send a p.m. including where to find the content. If it's a picture in the doll album or the member gallery, best inform an album or gallery admin, because it will need one to remove it. Moderators and even most admins can't access those parts of the servers.

As forum management changes from time to time, it’s a litte difficult to exactly tell who is who. The following list gives some members of forum management being often logged in. There are more, so this list is NOT meant to be complete, it’s just an example of who you may contact :

administrators : Bill, Campdaan, Kharn
access to admin panel : Bill, Campdaan, AlexKnight, Vanessa, Kharn
server admin : Manekineko, Bianca, SpiritfireM
album admin : AlexKnight
member gallery : AlexKnight
matrix admin : Vanessa
super moderator : for example Poet, Midnight, Slim, Jerry, Bill, Vanessa, AlexKnight, Campdaan, Siber, Putzzz, CJD, Incrediwagon, Zarnon, Euchre, Mannequingirl4, Tweetymel, Kharn, more moderators around
chat admin : basically, everybody having a forum moderator or admin title is also a chatroom admin, having an (A) next to the name in the chatroom members list

Hope this helps. :D

Vanessa...

Thanks for the outline of how to proceed when there appears to be a violation of forum rules.

Yes, the ultimate decision on whether or not to remove a poster's comment(s) or even his / her entire post should be determined by someone that is quite familiar with the Rules of Conduct.

However, I think it would also be a good idea to FIRST contact the poster who is in danger of being edited / deleted to advise him / her of why the action is to be taken. IF the posted comment is a clear violation of some Rule, then it should certainly be removed. However, for cases where the "intent" of the poster is unclear, the poster should have the option of defending his comment(s).

Some people may take offense at ANY remark or comment concerning a doll that THEY happen to own when, in fact, NO offense was intended by the poster. I think if is a good idea to allow a poster on the verge of having his post edited or deleted to explain his / her intent and personally apologize for having offended anyone...but, IF he / she can do that, then his / her post shoulld remain as he /she posted it. IF he / she does not repsond within a certain time period, then his / her post will be permanently removed.

I, too, want this forum to be a place for the "peaceful" exchange of information and ideas. However, we also have to have some safeguards to prevent it from being a place where a FEW "sensitive" individuals control the thoughts and opinions of a majority.

Thank you for the clarification Vanessa and I also think that Technoguy makes some very good points. My question is are any members of TDF management in paid positions? I would think that somebody has a financial interest in ownership and management of a web site this large. I hope that I'm not being to nosey, but I am curious.

Thanks again.

Yep yet another good post by Technoguy...

First off, it is important to see that this thread has NOTHING to do with the recent battles going on. Believe it or not, I see some passages sound like that, but it hasn't to do with it. A lot of stuff fits to that problem, but I was thinking about such a post for a longer time already, because the problems seem to be common.
The infringement passage also has nothing to do with certain members starting with P because other member didn't complain about him having no allowance... It's just a list of general problems. We already had a doll album with lots of pictures of others in there, somebody wanted (but at least asked before) doll pictures as avatars. And you won't guess how often I already heard "it was in chat somewhere last week, ask blahblahblah he was there as well".

....

This is just a help for those who feel insulted. The objective is to help them defend themselves instead of shooting back, the objective in NOT to get as many edits as possible.
Clear violations of forum rules will be removed, although you already notice moderating has to do with a certain feeling what to do, so I may also accept a certain amount of crap if it helps or I may edit although nobody complained... With comments that are not quite nice but not that bad either, of course I could just post and ask them to clarify what they mean or ask them to please find a nicer wording or whatever...

-----

Nobody round here gets any payment.

The most time consuming job round here is server admin, above all when shit happened. So Mytime would be the first to normally earn quite some money for the job. But we all do our job for free. Must be because we all like dolls. :D

Great post Vanessa. That certainly makes it clear for everyone.

Many thanks.

Vanessa thank you for the list of people to get a hold of.
I had a problem with a Chinese link it set off my spyware.
I could not find a moderator on the side to report it to so I reported it to slim he told me to report it
To a super moderator but I could not figure out how to find one.
You all took care of it anyway.
This list is very helpful.

Sincerely JM :D
