Mannequin heads "stylist/ cosmotology" type. Post your fav's
Unfortunately, this is the biggest pic I could find.
Also unfortunate, the only retailer than seems to stock Tammy is in S. Australia!

Ad says $123.00 which I assume is Aussie currency? = $100.00 US

- cutting out and adapting the skull cavity to accept and securely fit the textile doll neck fixing
cutting out the original eyes and replacing them with good quality acrylic eyes mounted in custom shaped rear mounted sockets with adjustment levers
a custom paint job to give her a deeply freckled skin (I love girls with freckles)
So this is the finished result. For comparison, here she is with another similar mannequin head in its original state. And here she is borrowing Signe's body. The skin tone doesn't quite match Signe's pale skin but my next Textile Doll will have the tanned skin tone which should be a much better match.[/b]

The Tammy head is a new one on me and I thought I have seen them all.
Nice conversion, ensguy. I like the moveable eyes. Where did you get them?

Happy to see any custom work done on heads. Thanks for posting.
I love the freckling. Brings her to life for sure.
Hi Rom, thanks for posting.
Yeah, I flipped when I saw Tammy. I thought she was a Sofi until I looked closer. They are both great lady heads.

The best sources I found to supply high quality eyes were companies specialising in the supply of parts and equipment to makers of highly realistic 'newborn' baby dolls. There are a good number of these to be found online, mostly based in the USA but I had to hunt around a good deal to find one that had the colours and sizes I wanted in stock. As it turned out, the one site able to supply all I needed turned out to be based less than 20 miles from my home in the UK. I used 20mm diameter eyes which were a good fit for the eye sockets. The eyes come in both fully round and half round form. I chose the half round ones since these would allow me to glue the adjusting handles into the concave rear and use smaller mounting brackets which would not protrude so far into the skull cavity and risk snagging on the neck stump. I bought four pairs of eyes in different styles and colours so I've got some more ready for the next project.Romulus wrote:Sofi: http://www.giell.com/Hairart-21-Chantal ... 030054.htm

I really should have started this thread in (inventors corner) for doll builders.
Here are some top of the line heads w/ real human hair from Hairart company.
First their banner pic shows from top of the line to budget heads.
Budget heads start around $50.00 and usually have animal hair. Figure $150.00 - $230.00 for a premium head. The head 4220 is the most expensive.

I found her on Ebay as a used head and partial shoulders shop display mannequin. I thought she looked pretty and that with a bit of work I would be able to convert her into a head that would fit my Textile Doll body. It actually took a very great deal of work,:-

cutting out the original eyes and replacing them with good quality acrylic eyes mounted in custom shaped rear mounted sockets with adjustment levers

What kind of paints did you use to get them to stick to the vinyl head?! I have used hobby acrylics (Tamiya) and a clear coat but eventually they wear in spots...I used Design art markers for my freckles and they stay put only rubbing alcohol removes them without damaging the vinyl!

Is this a mannequin head/ bust or from a mannequin head and body?
Is she closed eyed from the factory or did you make this mod?
Here are a couple mannequin heads I have found, but don't know who makes them. I found them looking for pixie wigs. I really like "head 2 or 1st one pictured" and think she would make a cute & sexy elf.

Other than that I have a somewhat older pretty common fiberglass one in not too bad but rough condition, was originally intendet as a test subject to try things out on but hasn't been used that way yet. I'll see if I can shoot a few pics some time.
