You are right - it is a cleverly chosen name which very well covers the subject.
I see it as the brand name and it may get confused, specially if the general public try to find out more about dolls.
While reading your answer two possible titles sprang into my mind - but I don't know if they are any good to cover your subject, just throwing them in for consideration

The two titles were "Doll Partners" and "Puppet Partners" - both titles are very similar, the "doll" came to mind first and then I liked the double up of the P's, using Puppet.
Partners describes what the dolls are, for at least some people in the community.
