Perhaps the world isn't quite ready for it yet.
They are manufacturers so they had nothing to lose trying it but I feel that it may have been more successful in Japan.

A rental doll? Really? How do you know if the renter before you used a condom or not? If they didn't use a condom, I hope the would-be renters know that you can not 100% sterilize a TPE doll. (uh oh, here comes the backlash!)

This shows that doll related commerce has caught the attention of authorities, and the authorities are acting. I hope this isn't an indicator of forthcoming, wider control.

The company didn't just suspend the service.

Chinese authorities demanded that the Touch app be pulled over concerns it would be a "bad influence on society”.

I don't know whether the service can still be offered in another way.

I spend time on the mgtow (men go their own way) forum on reddit and they are just now discovering sex dolls.
So, not everyone knows...

The only reason I see this is a bad idea, to share dolls, is because of the risk of transmitting diseases. This is always a risk with shared sex toys. TPE is porous, and cannot be sterilized, only sanitized so the risk really isn't worth saving a bit of money when lifelong health problems can result.

But, the reality is that it would not be any riskier, if not safer, than a brothal or a call girl service!

Health wise? Absolutely. Freedom wise? It depends on the local laws. Personal safety wise? A doll is better, they aren't going to have their pimp beat you or steal from you. Ethically and morally? That's up to the individuals involved. Every person and every couple have their own 'rules' to follow. Anytime the government gets involved, they are going to look at a lot of facets of the issue. China and most other Asian countries follow a lot of old traditions in line with what they consider honorable, that's part of what separates Eastern and Western culture.

As far as comparing a sex toy such as a doll to a living, breathing human... that's like comparing a vehicle to horse drawn buggy. They might serve the same purpose to some, but they cannot be treated the same and expect the same results. One is a manufactured, non-organic item and the other is a living organism.
