Good job repairing your lovely lady.
I wonder if you could replace the foot bone with one of the new versions so it wouldn't poke through all the time.

I hope you stepped on that cricket! How rude!

Did some catching up. I'm very impressed with the results of your surgical techniques.

That you have confirmed that crickets will eat silicone makes me wonder whether other insects might eat at silicone also.

Nina is a sweet lady.

Poor Nina, I bet she'll stamp on any crickets she finds now! She must have been horrified when she woke up after surgery!

Now to this one, with the usual disclaimer - to the best of my knowledge:
All known lifeforms on this planet are Carbon based, not Silicone based - outside of Science fiction, Silicone based lifeforms are unknown.
What that means is that no lifeform on this planet is able to digest and process Silicone into anything useful for their metabolism, which by the way is one of the reasons silicone products are so versatile and popular.
So while I am sure Von's observation did happen, the reason behind it must be a different one, such as being attracted by some of the( non-silicone) chemistry used close by or taking small chunks off as building material or the like.
While the outcome is the same in that you have to watch out it may shift the focus on what to watch out for a bit.

You did an excellent job....at the repair of Nina's injuries and with the write up!

Very annoying with the crickets.....poor Nina.

I never thought that crickets munch on silicone.

Oh buddy! I just read the post were Nina, Lila and cheetah took a bad tumble... I'm so very sorry to hear that both of your beautiful ladies sustained injuries from it... I am so very glad that you were able to jump in so quickly and lick their wounds. From the pictures it looks like the repairs went really well. Also you did a fantastic job mending the wounds together Dr. Von!!!! Anyways, I hope you and your ladies already recovered completely from this little incident. And will be back to delighting us with more fantastic photos!!

Thank you for your very detailed report on the repair of your lovely Nina von_Shredhead.
I myself shall also carry out repairs on her right foot at about the same injury as Nina

The only explanation for this wound is to lift to let her stand up during photo shoots or by lifting her up as a lever to save my back. The latter I do not since the discovery of her injury and have meanwhile learned to lift her in a different way, but more dangerous for my back.

I use thick socks and well matching shoes to protect the heels.

Thanks Chris! Nina's been through this "routine", as Nina calls it, a few times before, so she has some experience already ... she's a tough girl with many battle scars.

Accidents happen Dude ... Thanks!
After seeing Korra's surgery, Nina's lil injiuries ain't nothin' my friend. Great job yourself!
Those new foot bones certainly are nice ... I wondered myself if I could easily do a replacement without having to cut/carve the inside of the foot silicone too much to match the new bone shape ... probably not.

But ... when there's a will there's a way.

Let's just say "maybe" for now ...

The cricket ... well it died no more than a hand width away from Nina ... from eating too much silicone (I think "any" is too much

) ... can't digest it.

... evil lil bastard!
