I think most people into the "doll world" - Oriental or not - have a positive image of androides or robot girlsDoll Sweet wrote:
the Oriental people like the woman robot. we can find many lovely robot girl in Japanese cartoon and movies
those character very kind to human, help human, love human. almost robot girl is positive image and happy end.
but the in western world, people don't like the human type robot. in the movies and cartoon,
almost human type robot character is enemy of mankind, they only come to destroye and replace human.
robot girl always is negative image.
It's very exciting to see DS going that way.

Re: Next generation love doll
I knew that DS was at the cutting edge - but this! The cutting edge of futurology indeed!
Perhaps it's inspired by a suggestion I made about incorporating magnets or an electromagnet to change the mouth expression and even talking LOL
Great, possibly for film work as actors - but as dolls - I really like them silent.
Women can tend to talk about everything during sex, instead of worshipping the pleasure of the sensuality - so really talking is a turn off!
Whilst dolls can be acceptable in a married household, a robot for sex could just be too much competition.
For me, priorities are realism of tactile sensation, softness, comfort, sensuality.
Yet more things that are electric are perhaps don't always address the root of why some of us love dolls, as reflections of internal contemplation.
Some of this comes out in my stories of Chloé on the French Riviera. She does things which are a reflection of what I might think she might like to do, and in that is creativity. But what would she do as a robot?
And she comes to the beach and people love her as a statue, as a near human figure and the unrealism is part of the fun
What would Chloé the robot have done at the beach?
No doub't she'd have had a bevvy of admirers
if she reacted in the right way but part of her charm
is to leave something to the imagination.
So it's an interesting field and an interesting question.
I expect that my dolls, like statues, will be around and fun for descendants to play with in 100years time.
But an immovable robot might not be.
We also have to face the issue as a human race of where we are going - and in 20 years time we're not going to have the energy resources to fly dolls around the world and nor perhaps the mineral resources to make high tech toys . . .
https://sites.google.com/site/architect ... and-beyond
https://sites.google.com/site/architect ... -depletion
and this is an area which needs significant thrust of work now replicating some of the experiments on http://free-energy-info.co.uk/FEindex.html such as Thane's Transformer and resonant electrolytic splitting of water.
If instead of consuming now, as if everything is consumable just as it was in the past, and then not having the mineral and energy resources to tool up to new machines and new energy now, we research now and build the new energy generation machines resulting now, in time to make oil depletion irrelevant, then we can look forward to the continuance of a high-tech civilisation in which sex robots really can be part of our fun.
Futurology is important!
Best wishes

Re: Next generation love doll
@Doll Sweet:
I don't want to say this is a bad idea, I think this will surely be in the future, but I worry about the added cost for a questionable value.
You are investing a lot of effort into developing something that is pretty cool to show off but very few will pay for additionally if it's expensive ($3k head?). Then there's question about maintenance and repairing. Dolls being so rudimentary as they are now makes them more easy to repair, but if a robot head breaks down it might not be repairable.
Also, dolls with integrated electronics are more likely to be stopped at customs since there is more stringent requirements on electronics than there is on in-animate static objects. So you'll need to make sure all certifications are in order for each country or region. But the electronic components could be shipped separately while the doll itself has only static mechanical things.
But I'm not opposed to integrating electronics into dolls, however they need to add good value for little cost.
If I were a doll maker with R&D to spare, I'd focus on the following things:
- More realistic skin, look into alternative materials
- Lower cost of dolls with new construction methods
- Mechanically simulated breathing movement of the trunk, adds to presence and realism (very rudimentary technology, no A.I.)
- Eye blinking
- Improved aesthetics and realism of looks
Basically, there are three aspects to focus on with dolls:
1) Cost: by researching new materials and crafting methods you can lower cost
2) Presence: with rudimentary mechanical movement of trunk and eyes you can add the feeling of the doll being alive
3) Aesthetics: skin surface details, flaws, etc.
None of these are mutually exclusive. A new skin material could increase presence and aesthetics while lowering cost and simplify construction.
But there's also a caveat with animation, if done wrong it could decrease realism and presence. If the eye-blinking is not believable then it will degrade the doll rather than improve it.

So yeah, the first thing most people in the west think of when they see sexy robot girl, is "oh snap that thing is going to freak out and rip out some hearts!"

Re: Next generation love doll
I am happy to answer your question from the 'western' not 'oriental' view.
I would like to have following enhancements of 'Next Generation Dolls'
Heating and groaning like Hitdoll is claiming to have. No AI trying to talk to me, but some sounds bound to motion sensors.
As it looks in your picture you have movable eyes. Get the Eyelids moving. Once a second or so. I will look more life like.
MAYBE western people like more 'life like' dolls and oriental people more 'robotic/anime' ones?
Next thing would be self moving hip/neck joins followed by arms and legs. Just gentile, small, soft movements. Not try to let her walk.
Simulated breathing would be nice also. Small movement of the chest, some sound? (no snoring, please)
All doable with existing process. Just a more advanced skeleton. Some actuators and sensors. Even the molds can stay the same, just adjust for the volume of the enhanced skeleton.
I am into robotics as a hobby all my life. We do not need a AI here. It's more like a state machine...
I would be happy to help you out there in my spare time.
Enjoy!
Susan

For more take a woman...

I actually like the way she looks. Will you make it into an attachable doll head?

I particularly find it very touching when the guy breaks up when the robot asks him to keep in contact and the baby isn't threatened or scared.
Not all of us in the west are warmongering "bull in china a shop" mouth breathers. I blame this on the media and entertainment industry. Idiot americans need to feel overpowered by something in order to get there attention and robots fit the bill unfortunately but this is entertainment. Most westerners are fascinated with robotics as I think most of advanced culture is.
I think your work is commendable and would love to see more!

Exactly. The human body / brain is a wondrous marvel. Trying to simulate it is a challenging task.Szalinski wrote:The biggest problem I see in creating love robots is physics. In order to make a doll that is intricate enough to be capable of at least the majority of human actions, would it still be tough enough to withstand the rigors of vigorous love making, which as many doll owners know (or have found out) can be tough even on our relatively primitive inanimate prototypes. Also this very versatile, mobile yet tough enough machine has to possess sufficient softness, in all the right places.
