DIY hang system for DS-dolls

Post by GirlsGang »

Hi,
as posted in my Leora thread, I have developed a system to hang the dolls with head on.

CAUTION: only tested with DS145 / sKayla head, the prototype with thread rod bonded(!) into a tube took 30 kg . Please, test your assembly before using it on your doll.

What do we need:
Parts needed
Parts needed
2015-07-24_0004_cr.jpg (1.51 MiB) Viewed 3792 times
1 - Tool to cut metric M6 thread
2 - threaded rod M3 (steel), length tbd
3 - Eyebolt M6 x 25 mm (stainless steel preferred)
4a - 2x standoff M3 (Aluminum, used in electronics to raise PCBs)
5 - Connection nut M6 (stainless steel)
Thread lock (Loctite)
I also use a shackle 6 mm (stainless steel) which is rated up to 50 kg load

First step is to cut M6 thread to the outside of both standoffs as long as you can get.
Result should look like part 4b
Bolt one of the standoffs to the threaded rod using thread lock. Determine the length of the thread rod by measuring the distance from the neck bolt to the top of the head and add what you need up to your hanging support (minus the upper part (4B, 5, 3))
Bolt the other standoff to one side of the conection nut M6 using thread look. Take care the thread ends at the center of the nut.
I cut off the remaining length, but this is not necessary
Bolt the eyebolt to the other end of the connection nut. Useage of thread lock is up to you (I don't)
You should have now 2 parts:
2 basic parts for the hang system

The lower part in the picture goes to the neck bolt of the doll, then put on the head and wig (that needs some experience  ) and then bolt on the upper part from the picture.
Without the doll it should look like that:

If you want to use the shackle mentioned earlier, you hav to drill the hole in the eyebolt to 7mm diameter, otherwise the narrower side of the shackle wont fit.
I will use some shrinking tiube to protect the treaded rod from the cross pin in the head tube.
I will add a counter nut M3 to the top part to prevent rotating.

An improvement might be to replace the aluminum standoffs by steel ones.

The eyebolt can also be used for hanging the doll for storage when mounted to the neck bolt directly (I use this for showering, thus I dont use threadlock).

My appartment has a wooden ceiling installed by the previous owner, so I do not know what load it can take.
I found a different solution for that:

It is rated to take up to 90 kg of load, width between floor beam and gallows is 1,72 meters.

Next will be to get a height adjustment system, to the gallows.

If there are any questions feel free to ask...
Cheers

Excellent GirlsGang! Nice work!

I used to hang my first DS doll, but I stopped. Since I'm with her practically all the time when I'm home, I found that getting her down off the hook was a hassle. Now, I just store my dolls in my doll room sitting on soft chairs.

Hi realdolladdictus,
I dont get your point...
Where do you want to write a post?
This thread is not in the "members only" section so you can link it.
However, as long as you state that the pics and tips are not yours, I am okay.
Cheers

As you may have noticed I have covered the threaded rod with (heat) shrinking tube.

Pics of Leora using the hang system will be found in her introduction thread (link in my signature)

Looks great! It seems like it will be pretty easy to remove the hanging system from photos, given how thin it is.

Might I recommend if anyone makes this, they test it first by trying to support their own weight (just pull down on it as hard as you can, no need to lift yourself off the ground), because I have seen threaded rod snap very easily before, more then once from manufacturer defects!
Every day people remind me why I like dolls better.

Hi DO,
thank you for pointing that out again.
It is really a must to test before use.
I should have written that in bold and red

Great thread (pardon the pun)!

I'm looking at getting this eyebolt to hang my 145cm body for storage: http://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Steel-M ... B009CZ4MTE
Just confirming that 25mm is the correct thread length size.

Also, if I went ahead and made a similar head-through bolt system, would this kit have the correct thread size? http://www.harborfreight.com/21-pc-carb ... 61398.html
Or would I need a metric tap&die threading kit specifically? I wasn't able to figure out M6 in non-metric terms, and I don't know what the internal threading of the DS neck is in US units.
