The 2014 dolls with harder silicone can stand with less likelihood of damage to feet. My old158 is 2012, and the 168+ (see my thread "Thera Sparkles") is 2014. So when I saw a 2014 vintage 160 I bought her. She has loose joints and I am opening her up and tightening her bolts so that she will be able to pose.
The 2015 158+ is the new soft silicone and this will be damaged by standing. Mishka1965 has reported injecting silicone into the feet to protect them and I will be doing this for this lady.
However for my 167 this year
http://coverdoll.com/drupal/node/2513 on account of my insisting on a doll to stand, DS sent me their experimental model with screw threads in the bottom of the legs so that I have been able to insert 50mm bolts on which she stands safely and reliably.
However, these dolls still need to touch something or lean against something as they cannot balance by themselves, although it's rare not to be able to contrive that.
The OR156 dolls and WM155 can stand and balance by themselves long enough for a photo without too much risk of falling over, but the DS with bolts in the heel does very well as I've demonstrated with the 167 Coverdoll photosets. I don't use stands of any sort or suspension - she stands on her own feet in all.
As far as posing is concerned Z-One have just caught up with shrugging shoulders and no-one else does it, and the DS ladies can bend in the middle of their backs side to side as well as the usual forward backwards and rotation hinge.

http://yvonnecatterson.co.uk/ was working with with my ladies was from Singapore and the 167 was significantly taller than her so it was these girls in the photo who were having fun that day. When the dolls were standing up out of the corners of our eyes we were often tricked not being able to tell whether it was a doll or the model.
