Workflow of creating a 3D avatar of your Doll

No matter how great your camera might be, it is how you apply your skills that makes the difference between an OK shot and a great shot. Here you can talk technical, talk creative, share your techniques, lighting, and digital editing. This is where we can all help each other to take better photos.
If you post a photo here and are looking for a critique, you should be prepared for honest criticism even if it hurts. It will only help to make us better photographers.

Workflow of creating a 3D avatar of your Doll

Post by hansdampf21 »

Hi,

i have recently figured out how to transfer a doll into a computer game.
For now, i've explored the rudiments and did some tests to verify that it works.

These are only the basics and i want to share everything i learn to the community.
I thought i could create this post so i could motivate and encourage others.

This is a sample of what i've got up till now:

This is a Rendered image from a 3D model i've made with Blender.
Well, i didn't create the body of the girl myself. It is a free 3D model from an open source portal site.
But what i did is to replace the face with a 3D-scan from a doll head (actually the spare head of my doll).

The workflow is as follows:

1) create a 3D scan of the head or body
2) open the exported model in Blender and map the textures
3) create something with the 3D model
4) render the model as a jpeg file
5) export the final model as .obj file for use in games or other programs

Optional: use some 3D model portal site to upload, edit and view in 3D

Well, this only an appetizer to all the possibilities.

For 3D-scanning, i'm using an Intel RealSense compatible 3D Webcam (Razor Stargazer)

Software used:
- Intel RealSense driver and SDK
- 3D Systems 3DMe
- Microsoft 3D Builder
- Blender
- GIMP
