Hey all!

My older RD B4 needs a little attention.

There's a 'divot' out on the forearm. It's a place I have to be careful during the heat of passion  .

Anyways, I want to fill in the area with the new twopart I got with my new B2. Any tips on how to make that area smooth? It's one of the few blemishes on this doll.

Meanwhile my B2 is happy to keep me company (Taylor Tribute Face).

Z, to make that repair, mix up the silicone repair kit. When you first mix it the consistency will be fairly fluid. Let it sit for a little bit until it gels into a more paste-like consistency. Clean the area you wish to patch very well with acetone. Let the acetone air-dry off then put only the amount of patch material into the divot that you need. Try to avoid using too much. Once you have the divot filled to your satisfaction, get some cling wrap and press it tightly around the wrist and over the patch. Make sure it's absolutely smooth. Leave the saran wrap in place until the patch has cured (a few hours). You can hold the cling wrap on with staples if you like, or just tie it tightly around the other side. Do not powder the patched area for 24 hours. If you need any other repair advise, please email us directly.

Zarnon...

Yep, that's one nasty gouge you have in that B4's arm.

I've seen that technique with the Saran wrap produce some really smooth finishes. However, I've often wondered how well adding a silicone patch into a hole will hold up as the material surrounding get flexed and stretched as the doll is "used".

I wonder if it might not be a good idea, aside from cleaning the hole with acetone, to also "rough up" the surface inside of the hole a bit. Perhaps that would help hold the patching material in place better.

Thanks for the tips. I guess I don't have the two part so I'll be ordering it from Abyss.

Hi Zarnon,

Ok, Saran wrap sounds good indeed. In past we used the "Sith Lord plastic freezer bag trick" which is basically the same.
Fill the hole with 2 part silicone (after mixing its best to have gass bubbles out of it using a vacuum pump, as Sith Lord always told us, but if you don't have that equipment try to get the gass bubbles as much out as you can by letting silicone stay for some time)
Then clean that aerea, with acetone and put 2 part silicone on that hole to fill it.
Put a strip, cut from a thin tranparent plastic freezer bag over it, with the fingers go over the freezer bag to smooth it out, and wait two hours or so till the silicone is almost cured.
You can leave the freezer bag then and you will get a smooth repair.

For your other B2 doll with the locked rotation in the wrist have a look here:
Image
You can see where the joint rotates, its almost in the elbow.
I think you have two chances when you force to rotate it.
It may either start to rotate, or the casting may break, leaving you with another repair (replacing the whole casting in the elbow).
So, I wonder if trying to get that moving is worth all the trouble.
Maybe, once it will start to move "out of its own" due to that there will always be forces on it when you move the doll around, and thus maybe once there is enough play in it that it loosens up. Doll joints loosen up in the years.

Zarnon, Follow Abyss'es advice, they heve been at this for some time  The only thing I would add is once the sillicone gets to the paste stage work quickly, It won't take long after that before it will get too hard. where its on the forarm it should be an easy repair. You could wrap the wrap around and hold it together on the other side with clothes pins. Like this:

Yeah, this is a separate issue but neither forearm in my new B2 will rotate where MT shows it should. I've tried to gently rotate it, but they just won't budge. The rest of the joints are tight but move fine.

I'm getting the two part for the B4 repair. It shouldn't be too bad.
