Sarah is happy that she is safe to be with. She still won't do laundry, though.

TPE material is 100% safe material
I really would like to know that for sure.
It appears to be pthalate free  ; and OK for electrical applications? Image
This seems to have been the equivalent of UL tested, but I'm not sure if that
proves it's "willy-safe".
Thanks for this info, but I'd really like to see something more compelling from a
health source.

...............I'd hit dat

RoHS Compliance FAQ

Keep up-to-date with RoHS and WEEE initiatives and compliance regulations worldwide. These books and guides are some of the most up-to-date, and well-received, titles for 2014 that should be considered for your company library.

What is RoHS?
RoHS is the acronym for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, originated in the European Union and restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products. All applicable products in the EU market after July 1, 2006 must pass RoHS compliance.

What are the restricted materials mandated under RoHS?
The substances banned under RoHS are lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (CrVI), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).

Why is RoHS compliance important?
The restricted materials are hazardous to the environment and pollute landfills, and are dangerous in terms of occupational exposure during manufacturing and recycling.

(A note to WM Dolls, the originator of this thread: The second test, the test of ROHS compliance, is irrelevant to your claim and all the other tests done apply only to your doll and not to all substances falling under the broad category of TPE. Your claim that “TPE is 100 % safe” is unsupported. No disrespect intended.)

Question: What do Rattlesnake Venom, Nitroglycerin, Botulism Toxin, and the Ebola Virus all have in common?

Answer: Each of the above substances is ROHS compliant.

Here in the United States, ROHS is a standard reserved for the electrical and electronics industry. You have ROHS compliant electronic components (resistors, capacitors, circuit boards) and appliances (cords, switches, and the electronic components composing the appliance). To see this standard applied to a doll or its material seems incongruous. Even testing for the same banned substances is unnecessary because doll skeletons are not being made of lead, and no one is adding flame retardants to their dolls.

All the dolls discussed on this forum are ROHS compliant. So are peanut butter sandwiches, but let us hope that we do not see “ROHS compliant” on the labels of peanut butter jars.

However, the first test you listed, the test for REACH compliance, is highly relevant insofar as its results lend full weight to your claim that your dolls are safe. But you cannot make the claim that TPE is safe. TPE is a general category that your doll’s material ( “resin”) just happens to be classified under (and as you know, your material has a more specific chemical name). Certain “TPE” torsos sold on ebay are using a similar resin, if not the same material, but are using more volatile plasticizers that if tested would probably not have the same results as those of your first listed test.

You are a great artist and your dolls are beautiful. It is good to know that they can share our beds without emitting fumes that may have health consequences. But sadly, the results of your test cannot be applied to all “TPE” products.

Thank you for authorizing the test for REACH compliance, and thank you for making beautiful dolls.
