Gooseneck Sound - is it normal?

Post by MoviePilot »

Hello all,

like the topic says, is it normal that the neck makes noise as soon as you reposition the head?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about the noise of the loose connector bolt - which I already fixed by adding some tape.

Thanks in advance

In short, yes. After a week of my wife away, when she returns I wonder why her neck doesn't sound like that. Most disconcerting.

Perhaps other TPE manufacturers might have solved the problem. I wish WM would.

Best wishes

It's not normal, it's the sign of a defective neck. My first WM 140 had it and I contacted my vendor within 3 days and they sent a replacement body. It's another of the known neck issues that WM hopes nobody will complain about.

The second body's neck doesn't make a sound.

The neck should not make the grinding sound I think you may be talking about. Also this may be a early sign of what is to come, if the gooseneck breaks all the way.
Then the heck/head would not hold position.

There is not true fix for this no matter who says different. Their is a repair part that is offered. BUT this is just a quick fix. It by no means solves the problem.

Good luck

The neck makes such sounds and is not per se defective.

I have experienced four WM dolls and another made by the same factory and of the five still have three. The necks of all five creak.

Some women talk in bed. Some manufacturers can't wait to make dolls which make noises. The creak is simply the WM lady's way of communicating.

Best wishes

I have experienced such sounds as well. Doesn't appear to cause damage though.

Agreed. 'Grinding sound' is bad. 'Squeek' is fine. Most of the joints squeak when moved so I'm not surprised the neck does as well.

Of course I wish it was silent too. Except for a few nights with a sore back or arm, I've had Brie cuddled up next to me resting her head on on my shoulder overnight. Any slight move I make causes the neck to creak and often wakes me up. Still trying to figure out the ideal position that is both comfortable for me and minimizes her neck movement.

The noise is not necessarily a sign of danger. I used to think it was until I opened up the first one. When you see first hand how they are constructed it becomes very obvious where the noise originates from. So a scraping or creaking noise is normal, but I would be concerned about a grinding noise. Does this grinding noise happen only when the head is moved in certain directions, say side to side or front to rear, or is it present when ever the head is move at all?

Well, to be clear, I recorded it. See/listen to attached file.

MoviePilot: After listening to you soundtrack, This sound is common at least with WM dolls, it is caused by two stainless steel rods that are inside the gooseneck/spiral pipe, the stainless steel rods are affixed at the top of the gooseneck right under the threaded adaptor it runs down the gooseneck pipe and through two holes drilled into the cruciform of the skeleton. It is the movement of the stainless steel rods against the gooseneck that causes the noise. It is not necessarily a indication of a problem. A more positive way of determining if there is a problem, is to pose your doll leaning at about 20 to 25 degrees forward then position her head as though she was looking straight ahead of her, if she cannot hold this pose, then there is most likely a problem developing.

Good luck and I Hope this helps!
