Good luck with your new venture, Coyote. Hopefully this will lead to more orders from Bad Dragon, and possibly other custom creature commissions.

Not that big a fan of dragons myself, but I certainly like the breasts on that drawing :) Are you going to simulate the scales somehow? I'm betting that will be the big selling point for future orders...

Cool project, IMO perfect for the style you've created.

Whoa, she's flashing the Green!

Sorry GFELube, But I'm going to make you wait and see. Probably by next Wednesday.

Starting from the beginning, first thing I make is my vaginal cup.
Using a peice of white 3mm craft foam I cut a piece of W/P (waterproof) canvas (I'm using purple in the places where the internal structures can be seen) twice the size of the foam.
Attachment:
IM000817.JPG

Fold canvas over the foam and stitch around the edges. I use a little fabric grade contact cement to help hold while stitching.

Fold in half and stitch to make a tube.

Now the spine. Starting with Pool Noodles I cut the length needed for the spine.

IM000821.JPG [ 628.16 KiB | Viewed 8772 times ]

white W/P Canvas is cut and sewn in a tube to slide the foam spine into.

IM000823.JPG

Repeating steps for the vaginal cavity I then make a small tube to act an intermediate spacer.
Attachment:
IM000824.JPG
IM000824.JPG [ 1.07 MiB | Viewed 8772 times ]

The spacer is first sewn on to the inferior end of the spine and then capped with another piece of canvas. This is sewn by hand.

Spacer is now attached to spine and vaginal cup is ready to attach to spine.

Now with the vaginal cavity attached to the spine, I make a quick fit check.
Attachment:

One more piece made like the vaginal cup. This one installed on the outside to finish stability.

For those unfamiliar with SiaC here it is uncapped. The SiaC will slide back to the level of the silver plastic.

I then installed a tube of canvas into the hollow of the pool noodle and filled with economy polyfil (firmer texture).
The superior end of the spine was then capped with white canvas. Sorry no pics.
Spine is now finished.

Transferring my pattern for the pelvis and thorax onto canvas.

I then sew the pieces together with a machine and then turn out.

The pieces can now be slid onto the spine.

A light stuffing starts to give the pieces shape. Economy (firm) polyfil used on all "bones".

Starting at the distal ends I close up the bottom of the pelvis sewing it to the vaginal (should this be cloacal?) cup.

Attaching another head I check my distance for the top of the thorax.

Then sew down the distal edge of the thorax.

With both pillow sewn distally I can now start to stuff more firmly.
Attachment:

Sewing down the proximal ends I continue to stuff until the ends are closed.

With all ends sewn down this shows how the profile is starting to develop.

Moving on to the leg armatures.

For the barrels of my knee joints I use 1/2" PVC slip tees trimmed flush to middle stem.
The ends are sanded and then scraped to remove burrs.
The knee is made of 3 pieces of canvas laminated to poly felt.
These are sewn together and turned.
Attachment:
IM000869.JPG
IM000869.JPG [ 1.14 MiB | Viewed 8629 times ]

For the pins of my knee joints canvas is sewn into a tube, turned and cut to length.
One end is sewn up, the pin stuffed firmly, and then sewn shut at the other end.
Attachment:
IM000870.JPG
IM000870.JPG [ 1.17 MiB | Viewed 8629 times ]

Pins are then sewn to one side of inner knee, the pvc barrels slide over and then attach to the other side of the inner knee.
Cross stitching thru the pins tightens the joints
The knee is then stuffed firm and sewn shut.
Attachment:
IM000871.JPG
IM000871.JPG [ 996.69 KiB | Viewed 8629 times ]

Double barrel joint allows for smooth full range of motion, from full extension to full flexion.

Next I will attach leg bones and feet.

Peace,
Coyote9
