I think you'll find it's a weight issue more than anything else! These 'big' dolls are really quite heavy and a torso reduces the weight somewhat, although at that size they are still quite a handful.

Maybe buy a whole doll and chop off the limbs that you don't want to get the torso? Just a suggestion.
