It has come to our attention that the server that hosts the forum is having a problem with one of its hard drives. No worries, though, because our system runs on a mirrored arrangement, meaning that we have two drives that mirror each other as backup and that the forum can keep running on one until the bad one can be replaced.
We've arranged for that replacement to occur at midnight Pacific time this evening (October 8th, 2009). According to our ISP, downtime will be 15 minutes while the drive is replaced. As such the Dollforum and Dollalbum will be unavailable during that time.
If you encounter any issue before and particularly after, do let us know. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Big thanks Manekineko , we tend to forget the guys that keep us all here and the hard work they have to put in to do that.
We all owe you a drink my friend,

Looks like everything went without a hitch. The new disk is in place and re-mirrored. All is well again!

You're the Man
That's a RAID 1 setup isn't it?

Thank you!
Yes, it is a RAID 1. Basic and straightforward. I'm thankful we had this in place.

Thanks everyone. I wish I could claim more credit, but in this case our service provider had good tools in place to let us know when the problem started and we were able to make arrangements with them to fix it. Kudos to them for a fantastic setup!

I wonder what happened.
But I'am glad the forum is back.
But the forum has been offline a long time here (a "day", exactly from 10:30 AM till 20:00 pm).
I worried about the disk and the backups.
Is there a tar backup in place or is the new backupsystem tested?
Maybe my worries are not needed if it is arranged, but sure a good backup system needs to be in place, with an offsite backup every week or so, too much people depend on this site for their living (Lovable Dolls, PIB, RSSD, Ruby13 and many more).
Iám a man who fears incredimental backups like the one in CPanel. If you want I can give the tar backup script I used, its rugged and will help you.

Hi All,
Firstly let me apologize for any inconvenience caused today by the domain registrant change over.
We were not give any warning as to when this would happen and the first thing we knew, was an email from Network Solutions indicating they had made the transfer.
We would also like to thank our server administrator Manekineko for making the necessary changes at the server.
Once again, sorry for the inconvenience.
Kharn (on behalf of management)

As Kharn said, we didn't have much warning, so sorry everyone! At no time was the forum server itself down or in any danger. The changeover was with a different service that handles our domain name registration. Just needed a few changes on our part once the transfer was complete on their end.
I should also say all this went down in the middle of the night for me. I love waking up to the smell of napalm in the morning.

Using
http://www.dollforum.com/index.php
as my bookmark no longer works - 'Safari can't find the server'.
Nor can Firefox.
Thanks to advice from Kharn
http://174.142.105.60/index.php
works fine - otherwise could not post this.
Is this server thing permanent and should I change my bookmarks?
Or is it going to be resolved soon?

I noticed something similar. After TDF came back online, I still had an IE window open on TDF(of course blank). I tried to refresh, but it wouldn't work. After I restarted my browser, my bookmark worked again.
I'm not sure how it relates to Apple products though. Maybe your bookmarks will have to point to the new address.
