Kitty litter to stuff doll ?

Post by Paul60 »

Has anyone seen that lightweight, clear crystal kitty litter you can buy ?

It's like a fine crystal powder that weighs bugger all.

I'm wondering if it might be good for stuffing a vinyl doll ?

Any thoughts ?

Try it, I’d like to see what happens. Sounds like it would work.

If it were me Paul60, I’d stick with the tried and true polyester fiberfill, that most everyone else uses for this project. It’s actually quite cheap. I don’t know where you live, but the stuff in the link below is what I’m referring to. I would think that 5lbs would be plenty for the entire doll.

By the way, congratulations on getting your Barbra Bucanon doll. She’s a rare dolly to be sure these days, and that’s no mean feat there. Take good care of her, and if you ever wear her out, be sure and save her head for transplant to a future body.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm starting to think my cat litter idea may be a little 'crunchy' feeling.

How does a vinyl doll stuffed with this polyester filler compare in feel to an inflated one ?

It looks much like cotton wool from the images I've seen.

Oh, and thanks for the comments on Barbra. Yes, she is a beauty !

Use the small bean bags beads. They add all kind of weird things to that kind of cat litter

Thanks Samara,

I'll look at the bean bag beans too.

Do air dolls ever look and feel as good stuffed as they did inflated ?

I think they'd lose a lot of their realism :(

One member did this with a latex doll, and he mentioned that ideally, you still want her to be able to hold air so that she can be slightly inflated and still maintain a realistic figure. Personally speaking, I’ve always had to deflate these dolls way down to the point of lacking realism, or I could never get in, at least with the Nanma dolls.

If you search through the archives Paul60, you will find that over the years, that more than a few members have done this same thing. I recall one member even created a skeleton for his doll. Below are just a couple of such threads:
