Thanks Surferboi!

Here's a couple of new colors that I just came out with that aren't in the gallery as yet.
One is a bright violet and the other is called "Selene" to look like the character in Underworld.

Ami's new peepers...
A year an a half ago,

Now, we've been playing with (fine tuning) the new eyes. Ami must have deep sockets I found that I had to pack the support cups out to get her eyes to bear on the eyelids.

She looks more grown up now.
Ami absolutely loves them.

Many thanks to MannequinFan for this awesome mod.

Hey Tyr, thanks for posting!
Ami looks great!
Very nice job on the eyelid color. Did you paint them or use makeup?

It seems as though some heads do have extremely deep sockets.
I've seen this now on some JY heads. Is Ami a JY?
I'm probably going to have to start providing deeper dished bases with the kits.

One thing you can do is glue some washers to the back of the bases.
1/4" flat washers (for 1/4" bolts) are about the same diameter as the bases.
For metric, M8 flat washers would work as well...
https://www.mcmaster.com/#91166a270/=19jgt0h
For optimum rotation there should be about 4mm of gap between the eyeball and the pedestal.
Extending them farther may cause them to come off the dish base when turned.

As a last resort if you have a lot of problems with the pedestals, they can be removed and used with the cotton backing like the factory eyes if necessary.
Are you using the longest screws with the pedestals?

One tip on the brown lenses...
You will notice that the color of the iris is a little lighter on one side than the other.
Try to put the irises in with the lighter part down and the same on both sides.
This will enhance the shadow effect and look more natural.

Hi MF,

Ami's eyelids are eyeshadow, Bourjois, Paris, Smoky Stories. I did match it up on her skin too but it seems to have been absorbed by the TPE :-)
Ami is a WM No. 31 head. she did have a large amount of wadding behind her original eyes too. I did use the longest screws. They had probably 1 to 1-1/2 thread engagement and the eyes were a bit floppy. I packed them out about 3mm so I could wind the screws in about a bit further. I was wondering what the threads were, they look a bit like 6-32 to me. I thought I had some left over from my working days but i couldn't find them. Anyhow everything seems fine now.

I'll have to have a closer look at the Brown irises I didn't notice a difference. I thought the blue ones were awesome, although Ami looked really different to me, crazy, but it felt really strange at first :-) I'll need some yellow cat eye lenses now for her Blake Belladonna costume.

Thanks again,

Tyr

Good eye! They are indeed #6-32 stainless steel machine screws. :)
BTW, what did you use to pack them out?

Thanks for they time you invest into this project MF,

they look amazing on my doll, waking up to a "sleeping" WM #36 is priceless, angelic almost.

Installment was not that difficult, I did re-watch some of your videos on Youtube, to be sure I did not forget anything.

The brown eyes are a bit darker than I expected, beautiful work on the irises, also glad u added longer screws.

Fast delivery to the EU, nicely and well packaged, worth the wait :D

Hey Xander, thanks and I'm very glad you like them! :D
Yes, the ultra dark brown (#3B) is very dark - the pupil is barely visible, so it's best suited for Asian and other ethnic looks.
If your doll has really deep eye sockets, you may want to adhere some M10 flat washers to the back of the dished bases. I also have some deeper bases available. If you have a 3d printer I could also send you the print files for the bases.
The optimum is to have about 3 to 4mm of gap between the eyeball and pedestal. So if you need to extend them farther it may be best to shim up the base with the washers.

Ami has had her new eyes for just over a week now. After some initial issues, to do with Ami's eye sockets, solved with MannequinFan's kind help. I am posting a quick update. MF's deep bases work perfectly, with no slipping. once adjusted properly the eyes can be moved around without going all Marty Feldman on you. The eyelids slide up and down with minimal effort and stay put too. I used a contact adhesive to attach the eyelashes to the lids, this stuff,

make sure that the adhesive has set before going near your dolls eyes tho' as it dissolves TPE before it sets. So far I can see no sign of any reaction on Ami's original eyelids after over a week.
I am completely blown away by the change in perception that simply having the ability to close her eyes has had on me. Ami just seems more real. She has a greater range of expression as the lids can be positioned anywhere between fully open or closed.

Sofa snuggles night, tonight.

Cheers,

Hey Tyr, thanks, and I'm glad the bases fixed the problem! :)
I'm going to include these now with each set from now on.
At first I thought it was just the JY dolls, but it seems the problem is more wide spread.

Here is the deeper dished base with the optimum 4mm gap.
The base gives an additional 4mm of height for those really deep sockets...
