DIY Mannequin / Love Doll
I am new to this forum and am female, building a life-sized male mannequin / love doll / bed companion. I stumbled upon it while I was researching possible procedures for altering the head that I had chosen for the task. The head is made from a vinyl plastic and is hollow, filled with foam. The paint job on it isn't very good, and the plastic appears to be very thin. Research has told me that many people use acetone to remove paint from a doll, although these were Bratz and Barbie dolls. I fear that acetone may damage the head. Here is a picture of it here:

Does anyone here have any advice that they could give, thank you.

If the head is vinyl, acetone would be safe. But you should always try using it on some less important places like the back of the neck before using it on the face, just in case it is some other kind of plastic. But my experience when modifying my barbie tells me that you cannot always remove the paint 100% because the paint use some vinyl solvent and they stick to the vinyl. I removed as much paint I can and then spray painted the head with hobby primer and then spray over with flesh colour.

As DDdioxine said and you should be safe. I tried alcohol and it would not dissolve the paint.
I used acetone and a bunch of Q-tips to remove the factory paint. It may take awhile for the acetone to dissolve the paint. Just keep wetting and wiping. As the Q-tip gets filled with paint, toss it and grab another or you will just keep smearing the dissolved paint around.
Keep some water handy so you can quickly wipe away any acetone that gets where you don't want it. Once you get a area clear of paint, use some soapy water to remove the acetone from the vinyl then rinse w/ clear water.
Well wishes on your project.
