Re: 3d printed eyes with quick change lenses
Here's a simple way to achieve a nice shaded look with the eyelids and blend them into your makeup scheme.
I found that the matte gray paint holds eye shadow makeup nicely.
In this example, I went over the whole lid with the lighter lid color to give it that sparkle, then used the crease color to shade the edges.
Left is with makeup applied, right without...

I am now a happy member of the MF movable eyes and eyelid Club!
Below are various portrait shots I did of my new Doll Molly. I tried to replicate erotic expressions:
This is the ORDoll 023 head which has been customized in the following way:
- MF's movable eyes.
- MF's movable eyelids.
- My own Teeth&Tongue set.
- Permanent pink lips.
- Custom makeup.
Wow can you please tell me where I can buy the teeeth & Tongue set?
For the eyes I have only used the upper lids. I slightly modified them by reducing the eyelash area a little and sanding the eyelid surface smooth. I then painted them with an airbrush to match the makeup color. I was really impressed by the final look. I couldn't be more happy. The face is now 99% how I want it to be.
For the eyes, I have used the original irises from ORDoll. I liked MF's blue very much but I missed the turquoise reflections in them. I used a Dremel tool to extract the irises from their eye-balls and sanded them until they fitted perfectly in the hollows.

Re: 3d printed eyes with quick change lenses
First, they will be printed in a black ABS plastic instead of the flesh tone.
This eliminates the tedious lash mount painting which is difficult to do evenly, especially with my aging eyes. Also, the size of the lash mount has been minimized to about 2mm wide.
Next, with the aid of a little printed jig that masks the lash mount, the lids are sprayed with some automotive gray primer. This really takes eye shadow makeup nicely as you can see, and the lighter gray color will allow for a wider range of makeup colors to be used. The eyelid on the left was done simply by applying the darker eye shadow color first with the little applicator that came with the eye shadow, then the lighter color blended in at the center with a small brush to get that subtle shaded look. The color was then sealed with DuraClear ultra matte varnish. This was pretty simple to do - the whole process only took a few minutes. You can find the DuraClear varnish at craft stores like Michaels or any place that sells the Americana craft paints.

(I did this kind of quickly so pardon my dirty fingernails. )

To update the last post, as it turned out the DuraClear varnish did not work too well for sealing the makeup.
It orange pealed over the Mabelline eye makeup - something in the makeup it didn't like apparently.
So I'd recommend using the Krylon clear matte instead which worked fine.
Walmart usually has this stuff pretty cheap...

This hasn't been tested yet, but hopefully by embedding a nut in the eyeball and providing a small screwdriver slot they will be height adjustable from the front without having to remove them. The question will be whether there's enough friction on the pedestal to keep it from just turning with the eyeball.
If it works, this will make adjusting the depth much quicker and easier. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks LJ69, I second that thought.LJ69 wrote:so many good ideas on this thread - thanks to all who have put their input and thoughts into these wonderful innovations
I deeply appreciate all the input and suggestions I've received over the last couple of years to help make these a success.
BTW, the initial testing on the eyeball upgrade went very well.
Here's a new YouTube video that covers in detail the new improvements and installation instructions.
It's the longest video I've made to date.
