Edation Hot Stuff 1:6 seamless body 1.0 review
The first impression after unpacking the body is stunning. The material has a varying hardness in different body zones; especially the breasts are very soft and even squeezable. The stomach is about as soft as the ass, and in the upper chest there is something like an ribcage; almost everything is more clearly articulated than in Phicen's bodies. The overall impression is quite different to Phicens soft rubber material; both are a bit sticky, but the Edation actually is a tick more life-like. However, the Edation body smells as well like rubber, so it's most probably no pure silicone.
The kicker of Edation's body is clearly the seamless integration of hands end feets; no more hiding of seams with socks and gloves. The fingers have wires built in, so the hands can hold almost anything that fits in those tiny hands. Even the toes have wires in them and can be moved; the degree of realism is higher than on many life-sized dolls. Incredible! And the body can stand unsupporeed.
However, the hands and feet are slightly disproportionate and larger than a real woman would have (I do like this), and the flexibility has some drawbacks as well. First, it's close to impossible to dress the Edation body with anything tight like leggings or a hoodie. With a Phicen miniature, you just remove the hand or feet. Second, the fingers are very delicate. Actually they seem to be so fragile that Edation recommends on the package to use them es little as possible - a major drawback. And, less important: The Edation body has seams on parts of the body where Phicen figures doe not have seams. No neither of them is really seamless.
Probably the biggest surprise for me was the skeleton. It does not make those nasty bone-breaking noises like Phicen's, but it's significantly less posable. I hadn't expected that this kind of silicone body with a higher price would come with less flexibility. And there's yet another drawback: On the package, Edation warns of "creases" and recommends not to hold a pose for more than 20 minutes or the creases might become permanent. Seriously?
And there's something else I wasn't prepared for: The lack of a head poses a major problem. I was naive enough to believe that there would be 3rd party head sculpts that would match the skin tone and the neck joint. That is not the case; heads from Simple Toys do neither match in skin tone nor in proportions; Kumik heads require some modifications and are hard to obtain in Germany; Phicen heads do not fit mechanically, unless you are willing to lose head moveability completely. Hopefully I'll find something, but it's definitely not easy. I'm very open for suggestions!
Sidenote: Edation shows a lot of love for details; the body has a cameltoe and even hints a butthole. Isn't that reason enough to love this company?
So my verdict is clearly indecisive: The Edation body is probably the most realistic 1:6 scale body available on the market; it offers some details in miniature scale that many life-sized dolls for ten times the price do not have. The moveable fingers are plainly awesome and the squeezable breasts are a nice-to-have detail. In theory, the exchangeable head is a useful feature - if Edation would provide the heads.
On the other hand, not everything is on par with v4 Phicen miniatures, especially in regard to poseability and flexiblity. If someone would manage to combine the strenghs of both manufacturers, it might result in a product close to perfection. As is, both manufacturers deliver products with different strenghts and weaknesses - but Phicen offers the better price and the less troublesome products (heads and accessories included).
n.b.: As of today, both manufacturers do not have an accessible website; Phicen's was yesterday shut down by the provider [N9CN]; Google translate: "Dear users Hello! Already some time ago I also have bought this body because it comes closest to my own work. It is an impressive piece of work that Hot Stuff has made with this. Unfortunately the shoulder joint broke within the first 15 minutes and I was not even testing limits. So, unless Hot Stuff has made improvements I need to warn you for this. You also have to be aware that the frame in fingers and toes is submissive to fatique. This is not a minus. It is just a warning. To get a high quality posable frame in the fingers is not possible within this price. (For the special frame in the hands that I offer as an option for a ScoonimDoll you can buy 6 entire Hot Stuff bodies )
As said, especially for the price they offer it, I also think it is a really good product .

It's absolutely amazing how they molded the hands and feet; I did some experiments myself and came not even close to this level of detail, left alone embedding wires for fingers and toes. I never had the chance to meet one of your creations in person, but how did you solve this amazing engineering task? I read that your 1:6 dolls have even more details (e.g. lips); is this possible because you did not use silicone? How do they mold thos?
Also: Does the Edation body really come closest to your own work? There are also some quite expensive 1:6 scale silicone dolls by AT Doll (e.g. "AT Doll Lovely 026", the same are sold by Arte Tokio); have you ever had the chance to compare one of these with your own creations?
