So every foamy has warnings about water and cleaning.
Every silicone toy with a foam core has warnings about water and cleaning.

I've found lots of warnings, but haven't seen anything about what to do when a foam core gets wet regardless?

(It's one of those Fuck Me Silly asses, for reference. Core is drenched. =/ )

Mamoru,

It will never dry and mold will begin to grow. This is not healthy, you will need to throw it away.

You might have some luck with this method, which is an upscale from something I did awhile back.

Get a large foam cooler, like for soft drinks during the summer at the beach.

Place the wet foam item in there, with something that will produce a controlled heat (like an aquarium heater). The heater must be kept away from the foam, and on something which will not burn. Glass, sand, ......

Set up something to keep the top of the cooler slightly ajar to allow some air movemnet in and out. Just a little.

Turn on the heat and adjust the heater to keep the inside of the cooler about 150 F. and allow the wet foam to cook and evapoprate the water. You may need to check the foam item to make sure 150 is not too warm. It should be Ok though.

Good luck.

Thought of another way which may work better with less work:

Put wet foam item in a large plastic bag, place some desiccant in a bowl in the bag, seal it all up and wait for the desiccant to suck out all the water.
You should be able to get the desiccant at a hardware or craft store. Cost should be about $8 per quart.

You may have to go through several containers of the stuff depending on how wet the item is.

Good luck.

I would try to displace a majority of the water with wood grain alcohol. Use the expensive (highest percentage) that you can find. It may weaken the foam, but should speed up drying and prevent bacteria and fungus from getting started.

perhaps a night in a gas stove with the pilot light only on. it is about 120 degrees,no fear of melting. very dry. muth have exposed foam for evaporation to occur. still might mot work as i can only guess.

Nnh... not good. :|

I've got a few big tablets for chemical dehumidifiers.
Might try all three... the alcohol for the anti-fungal properties, then heat and the desiccant.
The foam is just bulk in this toy anyway, so if it weakens it it doesn't matter much.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll give it a shot. :glou:

i got an idea! pull out the old foam thru a cut in the bottom, let the inside dry out , full using the expanding foam that comes in a can ,only the type that gets extra firm. ,cautiously as it expands, you must let the excess foam out someplace. then silpoxy up the cut. ?? still might not work but better than trashing it.

Haven't checked in for a while, but since an update was requested I'll oblige.

The injection port on these toys that leads into the foam is only about as big around as your thumb.
(In hindsight, I probably should have plugged that fucker with something... silicone, glues, anything, to seal it up a bit long before it ever got close to water, but too late now.)

Getting enough airflow to actually dry anything out, even with the heat and the descants, didn't seem to be enough. The alcohol probably helped considerably to stave off fungal growth, but it's still a bit "ripe" in there from the standing moisture. (It's still moist in there after all this time, and if I squeeze the toy it it poots out some stank. :-P I agree with siliconelover, that's probably not healthy. )

Dissecting it as you suggest, beardy, seems to be the next experiment. The way this toy is constructed the bottom and back are just flat bases anyway-- even a hideous surgical scar wouldn't effect the sculpt at all, so I could get quite medieval on it without damaging the integrity of the sculpt or the "love-tunnels."

I'm not sure if I'd want to use the firm expanding foam, though. You can buy A-B kits with the soft expanding polyurethane pretty cheap.

or stuff it with pillow stuffing. foam chunks and such. something that can not hold a dent.

Hope I'm not too late with this post, but I have a boatbuilder friend who got a sweat deal on an expensive sailboat whose foam core was soaked with salt water through some cracks in the hull. What he did to get all the water out was drill a hole in the bad area and hook up his vacuum pump to it. After a few days all the water was gone and he patched it up. Maybe you could hook up a wet dry vacuum or even use a real vacuum pump with a trap to remove the water.

I worked at a polyurethane company in my youth and when the foam got wet we put it on a sloped ramp and the water eventually drained and it dried out. I dissected a foam doll once because I thought it was beyond repair because of water and found out too late that all the water had migrated to her feet. Had I known I would have tried cutting drainage holes in the part of the foot that hung the lowest because the foam where the water entered showed no sign of moisture. Can't say that it would have worked but foam is very porous and it should work.
