I heard the materials for the skin are porous, so even if you clean it out there will still be stuff seeping into the material, which means bacteria can grow there. How would you sterilize a doll after prolonged use?
If you're getting a doll second hand, how would you ensure that it is clean? Even if the original owner cleans it, what they see as clean might not always match up with what you see as clean.
I'm wondering if there's anything I can spray her whole body with that can simply be rinsed off without much hassle... booze maybe?
Seems like dolls on here are passed around a lot, but I haven't seen any threads dealing with this... do other people just take them out of the box and start licking?

I actually started a thread a while ago on this subject. It is in the Candy8teen forum, because I had a used Taffy that needed to be cleaned and sterilized. The best advice I got is to clean her with a citrus cleaner, and sterilize with a mixture of hand sanitizer and bleach. I ended up using a hand sanitizer spray, then Lysol all purpose cleaner with bleach, then Lysol all purpose cleaner with lemon. Here is a link to my thread. viewtopic.php?f=34&t=40733

It depends on the material the doll is made off, I guess...
Silicone for example is non-porous, so, nothing can seep inside... Plush on the other hand is very porous...
So, to be of more help, we'd need to know which doll you're referring to?

Actually that was something I heard about the "realistic" masturbators... maybe dolls are made of something different, I don't know anything about it.

I'd be more worried about catching a disease from a Real Girl than a doll

Hepatitis B virus can survive outside the body at least 90 days on a surface. C-diff spores can live on surfaces up to 5 months, MRSA can live on hard surfaces for months and Hep C can live for 16 hours- up to 4 days. HIV can survive for only an hour or so. SARS and rhinovirus have been shown to survive on surfaces for a few days. Viruses from the gastrointestinal tract survive for around 2 months. TB can last for months. The herpes virus dies quickly once it reaches the air, so seconds. Humidity will increase some of these times. Just clean to your standard well. You will catch a germ from a real person way easier than a doll or toy. No matter how much you clean, there will always be micro-biological organisms left behind, every and anywhere. Not just on toys. If you get a used doll and she is coughing, sneezing or has a runny nose, let her get well before you start licking! Hope this helps

I am pretty sure that Bleach will kill all these things. It dose not take much bleach in your solution ether. But be carefull, if you have to strong of solution it will stain the doll, but the right solution will just sterilize.

Quote: Can you catch a disease from a doll? Yes, but only, if the doll is sick. Means if the previous owner was sick. Means whatever he tells you, when selling, how much he carefully disinfected the doll, do it yourself again, even more carefully. The herpes virus dies quickly once it reaches the air, so seconds. Interesting list. This would mean, as my doll is in the crate for 1,5 years, and the crate has been unopened ever since, that I don't need to clean her before selling and the new owner also doesn't need to do whatever kind of cleaning. Well, at least for half a day. (that's when most new arrivals lost virginity)

Well, such masturbators are typically made of thermoplastic elastomers, commonly referred to by such names a CyberSkin, Fanta Flesh, UR3, Futurotic, etc. Unlike silicone, they are indeed porous, as I've found evidenced by their tendency to suck the moisture out of water-based lube so I was frequently having to "reload" mid-session...a problem I've only had with the Siliplush inserts of my Teddy Babes when playing with multiple dolls and going back and forth between them. I always made a point of cleaning the toys with antibacterial soap, but I've been using regular soap on the Siliplushes for three years and have yet to acquire any sort of health problems from it. Of course, the Siliplush inserts are turned inside out for cleaning, so for a silicone doll's insert (and especially a fixed cavity), I'd still recommend going with antibacterial.

The cart you push at the grocery store has more germs on it than your toys : )
Going to a movie could make you sick.
Eating fast food could too.
life is full of risk.

re "Hepatitis B virus can survive outside the body at least 90 days on a surface." by Zook I heard from a doctor that hepatitis can survive outside the body for only fifteen minutes. I also heard that it can only be gotten through blood to blood contact. In my opinion, the disinfectant would be harmful than the germs. You'd probably contact more germs on one train trip than a doll. I ride the train everyday. In my opinion, the doll is less harmful than shaking someone's hand. I've never cleaned my mannequin, so she probably has more sperm than a sperm bank. I bet If I tossed her into a crowded swimming pool, I could knock up a lot of girls.

I'd think a UI tract infection would be the biggest danger. Not too serious compared to some of the above if treated quickly but still can be dangerous dangerous. Like Lovesblackwomen, I'm a bit wary of cemical cleaners but their are a number of water based antibacterials at most adult toy shops http://www.69adulttoys.com/SexToys/ToyExplorer.asp?SubCat=58I wash my inserts with soap and water and then go over that with hand sani. Unused she stays fresh'down there' for days. After about 2-3 days I re wash even if unused as if there is moisture inside bacteria will grow and the deepest part of the insert never seems to dry completely. Never tried this but I suppose soaking in a hydrogen peroxide solution would work too. Not sure if this would damage the toy/doll though.
