Re: what exactly is macromolecule medical silicone?
TPE is not silicone at all.ashleystunner wrote:Is it a fancy way to describe tpe or is it actual silicone? I ask because it says my girl is made of macromolecule medical silicone. She has a few small tears on the outside of her elbows. They are not really noticeable but i want to repair them before they get worse. I have read that silicone glue doesn't work on tpe so i am confused about just which product to try. Any help would be great. Thank you.
The term is often put into ads for TPE dolls to mislead.

Also, it's likely someone could identify the maker by observing photos of her. There are ways to test for whether she is silicone, so if all else fails, you can test.
Hint on one way to test: Silicone can't melt.

No disrespect intended, but Silicone does melt.Obin wrote:Hint on one way to test: Silicone can't melt.
However, it melts at a very high temperature, whereas TPE melts at a relatively low temperature.
I have melted silicone in a microwave and re-poured it into a mold. It took a very long time for a small piece. I have also melted it in a pot in the oven. Again it took a long time to reach melting temperature and was not usable afterwards. I don't recommend this as in both cases it created a lot of fumes and I can't stress enough how freaking hot it is, very dangerous.
Place a hot soldering iron on TPE, it starts to melt right away. Silicone will not melt right away. Maybe if you hold it there for quite a while it might.

Nevertheless, silicone withstands much higher heat than does the TPE dolls are made of.
Even wiki doesn't list a melting point. The wiki does, however, state information I'm going to review.

I've looked also, can't find a stated melting point for silicone anywhere.Obin wrote:Don't worry about the respect. That information was considered common knowledge. Your report is the first I've read of silicone melting.

It seems implied that it'll ignite before it melts, and it was very close to the combustion point when I did my little experiment. That was 20 years ago.
I recall years ago, a TDF member had his silicone doll stored in a garage, there was a fire. He posted that the doll was in a severely melted state after.

I suppose different blends of silicone are all different.

lol no. I was off topic, sorry. I was disagreeing with another post, that silicone can't melt.ashleystunner wrote:Are you suggesting i throw my doll into a garage fire to find out what she is made of? I guess i am asking if it is this "macromolecule medical silicone" what kind of adhesive would i need? I just want to do it right so i don't fuck her up. Does anyone have any experience with this material?
You need to determine what your material is before you fix her.
If she is TPE then she is NOT silicone.
There are plenty of threads on how to repair TPE.
There are plenty of threads on how to repair Silicone.
Both use different materials for the repairs.
As Obin hinted, if you hold a soldering iron up to a hidden patch of the flesh, on the back of the neck under the hair line perhaps, it will start to melt if it is TPE.
If it does not melt readily then it is silicone.

The 'macromolecule medica silicone' jive is put into Alibaba type ads for Chinese type dolls, to mislead people. She is TPE not Silicone.
