Hi All,
I am trying to seal a small tear on the vagina. As I am not really good in fixing and repairing, I was wondering if anyone can give me some pointers. For example, what can I use for catalyst?

Thanks

... Hello Buyer_to_be...
(I decided to wait and let some RealDoll owners help you.)

But, if you are talking about RealDoll or Silicone Dolls, in general, then this message, and its details, might help you, a bit...

If you take your time, ANY tear can be fixed such that you can't see it when you are done. I've become an expert at fixing tears.

1) Clean the torn area to ensure a good grip. I use a little alcohol myself and then I make sure it's completely dry. The area must be free of any lubricant, etc.

2) Take the silicone glue from the repair kit or purchase clear marine grade silicone glue and coat both sides of the tear with it.

3) bring the two sides together so that they match exactly. This is the trick - align both sides using pins, etc. so that they align perfectly.

4) Completely remove any excess glue.

5) Let dry in position for at least 12 hours. Silicone repair is tricky, but can be learned.

6) One good idea is to buy a large silicone toy and practice on it - cut it and reglue it etc. When you are good - then work on your doll.

Slade and Mark are the masters of Silicone repair. I learned allot from them myself.

Thanks all, but I forgot to mention that since the tear is pretty big, I am trying to repair it using the silicone mix, not glue. I am especially confused about what to use as a catalyst. Any help?

Thanks

Hey buyer to be,
You gotta use both to make a good repair. Use some clear DOW brand silicone caulking. Follow Mikes steps above to apply it. Aquariam sealent works fine too. Wal-Mart sells a small tube of the stuff in the Fish section.

Once you seal off the tear, and it's completely cured. Use the two part colored silicone to cover it up, for cosmetic reasons.

Try it, it works. Also use Nail Polish Remover instead of alcohol to clean the area, and use some sand paper to rough up the torn sides, before glueing. The new glue has to have something to bite into, to make a strong bond.

Try that metal scraper from bicycle tube repair kits.

Hello - you must use glue to fix a tear. Go buy a tube !!!!!

If you do it right, glueing a tear together will not show!!!!!!!! No matter HOW big.

The two-part stuff is for filling - as in the backs of the knees blew out completely. This happened with older dolls.

Slade glues with pins holding the two parts in contact.

He fills using the two part only when he has too.

The catalyst - you need to order some from Matt.

Everyone does repairs a little different, but in general only fill when you HAVE to.

I would NOT use the glue in the area you mentioned. (vagina) Did you talk to the guys at abyss?

The reason I say this is the silicone in the vagina is even softer than the "skin" of the doll.

I've been testing some of the RTV's out there and they are very hard. Also have found NO differance in "marine grade" and regular silicone. (except $$)

I'm testing a mix of silicone grease and RTV right now..

Really, talk to Abyss.

When you glue a tear back together - it's very flexable. The glue is only hard if you try to do a FILL with it.

You can make paint with glue by adding tint and lighter fluid!!!!!!

Take my word for it - these tricks are straight from Joey at Abyss !!!!!!

You can't fix all tears with glue, but you can fix most of them.

Hey Mike, I've been mixing up different batches of silicone to re-do the nipples on my doll.

So far I've made a couple of batches with the silicone grease mixed in and it produces a feel very similar to the doll's skin.

For tint I use oil based artist's paint as suggested by guy.

I had re-painted last week with tinted silicone (no grease) and found that even a thin layer was very stiff.

You may not have realized this but the paint Abyss is using is the same softness as the skin. (boy did I find out the hard way)

Must be the silicone glue I'm using. It's pretty good, I don't notice it being hard at all.

In fact, it's pretty flexable for fills too.

It's "Boatlife Marine Silicone Rubber Clear." It's $10 bucks a 310 mil tube.
