Hey doll owners!
How do you clean your doll's wigs?

Today, I wanted to wash Jessie's original, three year old, Miss July wig.
It is slightly frizzed out at the ends (from brushing and combing) and smells pretty bad from perfume I sprayed on it (top only) and just general usage.

Normally I use a good quality wig shampoo and follow the directions on the bottle.
Then I use a wig conditioner that you put in fresh water and soak for a while, then remove and do not rinse.
Just comb it out wet... the conditioner makes it much easier... and allow to air dry.

The wig shampoo doesn't remove the odor completely, and I've never really been satisfied with the results I get using the shampoo.

So... I combed out the wig and put it loosely inside a nylon mesh bag that I use to wash my girl's delicate items in the washer.
I placed this in the washing machine with my usual Monday wash and let it rip.
I figured that if it gets ruined, it's not a loss because it's old and I have other new ones that she can wear.
I like to use the older wigs in bed because the new ones get messed up too quickly...
Anyway, when it was done, and I removed it from the bag, it seemed pretty good.
I brushed it out with a wig brush and it's now air drying (the spin cycle takes out much of the moisture)... and it smells great!

I used 'Mountain Spring' scented TIDE liquid. (If you don't want any scent, you can use "unscented" detergent.)
Maybe for older wigs, doing this once in a while cannot really harm the wig but it cleans it very well![/b]

Just some info on my unorthodox and not recommended wig cleaning "Test".
Try it sometime on an older wig and let us know how it works for you.

EDIT: 7:22 PM...
Jessie's wig is now fully dry and combed out.
It looks good, is silky soft and smells really nice.
I guess my test method works well.
I won't be trying it on any new wigs but for older ones it's fine. GB

Well, I don't know if directions were given on how to wash this Revlon wig or not, because this wig (as well as other ones) were sold to me with my sweet candy8teen Taffy doll. I bought her off of artist69.

This is how I last washed her hair  :

I then took it off of her, and placed in the bucket to finish washing. I just thought it'd be fun to do some of the washing of it like that with her. 8)

And after it was all dry (which takes a while, especially the netting) and combed out, I put it back on her later:

As far as my my other wigs go, it is my understanding of kanekalon wigs, to soak the wig in some water, then put the shampoo in the water with the wig, wash it gently, then pat dry with towels and allow to dry, then comb it. That's how I clean those ones. I don't use special wig shampoo and never used conditioners (just Suave Strawberry 2 in 1 shampoo/detangler), though I would like to try.

I recently bought two human hair wigs, and one of them I washed the same way. But instead of hanging it to dry, I put it on my mannequin and combed it wet, gave her a nice wet hair look, and let it dry that way on her. It was a short wig.
