My post wasn't addressed to you or directed towards you in any negitive way CW.

Just stating the facts.

Asterix has been wanting to effectuate this repair for a long time now and I wish for him to get it right. If he were to use the wrong method and it doesn't hold and work, he will be left with a real mess and his doll could be left in a much worse condition than it is in now.

I'm glad you were able to repair your doll. However, I would have checked with Patrick first but it sounds like so far so good. I do hope it lasts.

Sil-Poxy states that it Bonds RTV silicone to RTV silicone but it is not the same make-up of chemicals. Your doll is not the same as a Mech and my doll is living proof that the method used with the Sil-Poxy is a time proven repair. Yours is not but as I said above, I do hope it lasts.

I don't take short cuts to save a few dollars ever, especially when dealing with such an expensive and valued item. I never understood people using other types of adhesive when trying to repair their dolls just because it's cheaper. Sil-Poxy for Platinum addition cured dolls period in my book.

Maybe Patrick will stumble across this and add his thoughts.

Good Luck to you CW, I've always been a fan of your Girls and photography.

No one like to tell what is going on. But here it is.

The foam core is made. With skeleton attached and pins. The pins fit into the mold holding the foam in place.
This is why you sometime see small holes when dolls are pulled

You can see videos on youtube

The urethane foam will not stick to the silicone well so if the foam is sanded some to make it pores or like a velcrow
texture it can make a mechanical bond. Not a Chemical bond.

Any way when the silicone is pored in it surround the foam holding it in place.

I know I dont make high price silicone dolls so like some might say what dose he know.
Well I don't make silicone dolls so I have nothing to hide.

hope this helps. on your question about what makes it stick
its so much better than making a post and telling you nothing.

No worries, not trying to step on any toes or give bad advice.
I chose the RTV, not for cost, but because of it's
delivery system. If Sil-poxy came in a spray can or
pressurized despensor, I would have used that, instead.
Also the choice was to minimize the incision into the bulge, to
reduce the amount of cosmetic repair. A sil-poxy tube would have required
a much larger entry, probably multiple entries due to the size of the bulge,
or a major incision to lay back the skin to use a roller, as mentioned earlier.
No one should ever attempt any work on their girl without talking
to the maker first. I've just spent enough time with mine to feel
comfortable taking on anything that pops up. Or out

Sil-Poxy

The best thing to do is call smoth-on and ask them if Sil-Poxy will stich to platnum and or tin cure
I think it dose. I would bet a lot of money that 99% of the silicone doll co in the USA. use smoth on silicone

Hey itsme,

It is well known that Sil-Poxy sticks to and mends Platinum silicone.

Every High End doll manufactuer here in the states uses Smooth-On products in their dolls. Even Yves Becker over in France uses it manufactuering Mechadolls to this day. He was the first to use it.

Smooth-On is the absolute best and finest silicone products there are. Not just used by doll manufactuers but throughout the Hollywood film industry and by the best prop masters.

They also just introduced a new silicone foam product that comes in two densities for various uses.
