Glycerin for TPE?

Post by Mr Franz »

Here's a question for all the chemist and/or mad scientists in the room. My wife is highly prone to rough dry skin. The thing that's been the most effective at treating this is pure glycerin. Which, when used regularly, leaves her skin soft and supple. So the question is, does anyone know if glycerin would work on TPE and whether or not it's safe to use on that material?

Glycerin (Glycerol)
- belongs to the group of alcohols,
- is water-soluble and
- available as a mixture with water (left: with 15% water) or water-free (right).

Simply applied on the TPE surface it has no effect.
Glycerin pearls are formed, because TPE is synthetic and not able to absorb water-soluble components.

It doesn't work massaging Glycerin gently into the TPE surface.

It also peels off at an oblique surface.

Glycerin has no effect for TPE.

Exeption:
When glycerin is rubbed with force into the TPE it can cause a slight dryout effect in the long term.
The water-free version is somewhat stronger here to remove mineral oil out of the TPE.

Glycerin is able to remove makeup.

Thanks for the info Indigo. Glycerin is one of the ingredients in water soluble lubricants. Keep in mind that water soluble lubes are the only lubes you should use with your doll for the reason above.
