Hi,

Here's a new design improvement I've made on both RD2.
The jaw modification works well but the screws started to loosen again after some movements. Loctite thread locking fluid is an alternative but let's do it more professional
The stainless steel washer/screw fixation can't be thigthened too fast to allow a proper jaw movement.
Jaw articulation mod1.jpg
To resolve this last problem I produced a pair of bushings on my lathe

The jaw fixation combo looks now like this. Note the slight gap between the washer and the Phillips pan head to compensate the shape of the jaw.
DSC01703.jpg
The bushings are positioned between the thread inserts of the skull and the stainless steel washer/screw fixation. The jaw itself is now properly hinged to the bushing with firmly tightened screws.
Note: you need to enlarge the holes of the jaw by drilling & filing to install the bushings.

Finish the jaw rattling when the dolls get cold :haha2:

RealDolls forever

That said, when you're interested to mod your RD just throw a PM and I will add you to the list.
3 kits are already sold and shipped to the U.S.!!!!

When I'm back from the European/UK Doll Meet 2016 I continue production. Next shipment will be ready upon the 2nd week of October. Sorry, the few kits I've prepared are sold-out!

That's a great vid SF! I wouldn't even consider doing this mod before seeing it.
Now I see it's not so bad ... maybe ... just maybe :fadein:

I don't have the tools to drill into the plastic, so I've tried the felt washer and #8 washer method -

However, it seems like the threading on one side of the jaw is ...rusted? Or something - I'm not sure, but the screw does not go in as easily, nor as 'straight' as the other side's screw (with and without the felt pad and washer).

I figure an easy solution would be to replace the threading and screw (the screwhead has now been stripped a little, and the rust remover liquid I used for the thread insert didn't help) -

Does anyone know of the correct sizes/specifications of the thread insert and screw?

Screw: #8 UNC - 32 TPI, length 1/2", Phillips Pan Head, Stainless steel.
Insert: the insert is similar like these one https://www.amazon.com/Z-Threaded-Inser ... B00DCFIFPW but the factory used inserts are just pressed into the skull, not riveted or screwed. Alternatively contact Abyss which inserts/bushings they use, could not find this type :?: :!:

Hi doll friends,

I decided to make another modification on both RealDolls.

The reason to improve mod #1 (view page 1): There're threaded inserts in the skull to adapt the jaw fixing screws but when applying to much force you can pull them out of the boring.
Drawing1.jpg
New hardware used on mod#2:
Drawing2.jpg
Stud bolts installed/secured with CA glue and new felt washers used.

Jaw fine-tuning
Jaw finishing.jpg
When you want doing this type of mod consider that you need to:
- pull-out the threaded inserts
- enlarge both insert holes to dia. 6.8 mm and cutting M8 threads to adapt the new stud bolts
Note: the holes of the jaw needs to be enlarged to dia. 8.2 mm

Some pics from Amy. She wasn't very amused :-(

This look tells enough => dangerous situation for a doll owner!!!

Hi purplehaze,

I remember that I sold you 1 kit from mod#1  :D This kit is way easier to install as the mod#2 upgrade which needs more tooling and workmanship to install the parts :!:
Thanks much for replying!!! :glou:
