Customizing, what are the limits?

Post by Szalinski »

:evidence: I know Abyss is under contract for all their Wicked Dolls, and as such the changes that can be made (by them) are limited. The way I understand it, nothing can be done to customize the doll above and beyond what the actual star could do herself (at home, without surgery). Things like hair (wigs, OTC perms or hair color), lip color (lipstick/gloss), nails (manicure, polish) and so on.

But what about skin color? I mean a real woman can easily darken her own skin either by laying out in the sun to get a tan or by using lotions. So could Abyss do the same with their dolls? Darken the skin color? And how many shades darker could they go without violating their contracts?

If Realdoll or anybody else wants to make a custom doll, without the person's permission, who would know. What one doesn't know won't hurt them. If I want a custom doll of Kristy McNichol, how would she find out?

From what I understand the actual models of the wicked dolls agreed to the look they had at the time of the deal. It seems to simplify the use of having a persons likeness as a model of a doll. Otherwise could you think of the expenses involved in changing the silicone, wigs, and sculpt each and every time the Wicked girls wanted to change their look? :p But you know, once it's yours you have the creative liberty to do what you'd want. Just look at Stacy's beautiful modifications made to the Kaylani model. http://thestacyleigh.tumblr.com/post/32 ... i-realdoll

Best would be to ask Abyss if they can change the skincolor of the doll to a darker tone.
I know they can change the things you mentioned, like makeup, hair, nails, things like that, but I don't know about skintone.

On one side, I can understand if they say no due to their contract, but on another side, I can see your view, if for example Samantha gets a nice tan, she wouldn't be a medium skintone (my guess) anymore, but a tanned skintone.

Nobody would find out if you never told anyone you had a Kristy McNichol doll made by Abyss... but from a business ethics point of view, it's simply not very ethical to copy someone without their consent.

That's principles at work. Some don't care about those principles, and do it without a second doubt, but others hang onto those principles.

But even if they did, the face and body would merely be a close estimate and not an exact copy, as it would come to the artists interpretation of the pictures he sees.
To get a 1:1 copy, parts need to be scanned/molded from the actual person.

When i read the titile i had imagined reading, "i want to turbo charge my doll, lower the frame, add spoilers , add nos, and a new tranny under the hood."

I agree with AlexKnight, cautious ethics will protect the company and avoid lawsuites in the future. These doll companies are fragile as they r niche markets.

Have u tried fan mailing your favorite porn star n ask her permission for u to dedicate a statue (sexdoll) in her likeness to celebrate her beauty? She would be flattered. Hopeffully she would informally concent thinking lightly about it and be flattered. Do any lawyers here know if a formal consent letter with signatures is absolutely required?

I'm sure they will not be flattered unless you pay them as much as what abyss paid them :)

Abyss has a question form, but they prefer this be used only for serious (as in: intend to buy) inquiries. This is just a general curiosity question and I didn't think it right to bother them (those waiting for dolls might appreciate my not delaying that also  ). Otherwise yes, I would have asked them.

Is putting pictures of peoples' faces on dolls unethical?

What about placing someone's picture on a dart board?

Placing someones picture on a dart board is definitely unethical.
And it depends on who's picture one puts on a doll, whether or not it's wrong.

As the saying goes: "Don't do onto others what you don't want others to do unto you".

What you do with your doll once you own it, is your own decision, but IMO, if you put a picture of a celebrity on your dolls face, you're basically saying "I really don't like my dolls face, this picture is better". It's like putting a bag over a real girls head while having sex.

I wouldn't dream of having to cover Kayla's face with a picture of someone else, I love her too much for that.

Also, there are serious legal differences between the owner of a doll placing a photo of someone on it for their own personal use, and a manufacturer making that doll in the semblance of that person for the purpose of gaining profit from it.
