Oh, happy day! I was wanting to say this earlier, but I had started my savings account for my F14B6 RealDoll, which Kat and I had, along with Daphne's input, decided on the tentative name Rachael. (OK, we were watching 30-Minute Meals...)

As some of you know, I have been wanting a RealDoll since the very first day that I had joined TDF back in July 2005. Of course, the two people who joined the day before me, AlexKnight and Vanessa, have already gotten their RealDolls while it had taken me this long and so many hardships to finally get started saving up for one.

The weapon of choice for saving up for my RealDoll? Nope, it's not a standard savings account, nor is it a CD or Money Market savings account. It's a Custom Club account through Navy Federal Credit Union, where you can set the name (I selected "RD Acct" for my account's name, I am now kicking myself over the choice of that name, I was wanting "RDF14B6 Acct" but who's to argue), the maturity date (I selected one year from the 26th of June in 2009 as my maturity date) and can start the account with as little as $5. I started the account with $200. Then when my economic stimulus rebate check came in from Uncle Sam, I seeded it with $200 more. Right now, it's only a start, $400 is in there now, but next Friday I'm going to seed it with $500, giving me $900 total. I have to either go to a Bank of America ATM (my paycheck goes to Bank of America), withdraw the cash, then ride the bus or find some other way to a Navy Federal branch to deposit the money. Of course, that's only two notches on one of my numerous 10-Ride fare cards from Hampton Roads Transit that Kat gives me, in essence $2.25 (I pay half fare) for the three trips to Bank of America, to Navy Federal and then back to home, hoping I make it to TCC before 5:45 PM (that is when the last Route 12 heads to my place... goddamn city of Chesapeake for not allowing an extra trip after the last bus arrives at TCC at 6:45 PM to allow some people who may get off late, but the City of Chesa-puke didn't want TDCHR [the non-elected officials who operate HRT] to allow another bus from TCC in Va Beach to 20th Street and Seaboard in South Norfolk after they arrive in Chesapeake at 5:45 PM, so they only allowed a trip from South Norfolk to Va Beach and no return trip... that sucks) to get home. (Best bet is in the mid-morning.)

OR... I can just pay up $3 in banking fees and transfer it online from Bank of America to Navy Federal. (And I'd hate to say this, but this is the method I prefer. I like to do most of my banking business online, because of my screwed-up sleeping schedule. Oh, and I hate lines.) But this is the slowest method, because it takes Bank of America three days to make the ACH transfer, and another day for Navy Federal to deposit it.

Enough about the banking system. What I am happy about is that I have finally found a sensible way to get a RealDoll that I have been wanting since May of 2005, two months before I joined TDF, when I found out about RealDolls through a Wikipedia search, when I couldn't believe that they existed. And instead of trying to get loans with high interest, I can put the money aside and get interest paid to me for putting the money aside, in essence, having more without having to pay monthly.

I have chosen the combo of the Set #1 Rui on RealDoll's website, a Face 14 and a Body 6, and was also inspired on that choice thanks to Galatea's Devin, manekineko's Paige and Stimpy's Nikki. Now it's up to Kat to help me decide on the other stats like eye and hair color. I've already decided on the natural eye shadow and lip colors, not because I would like Kat to help me choose makeup for the doll, but I'd just want a non-made-up appearance. Kat is wanting green-hazel eyes and medium brown hair, but I'm trying to look through my options before I send off the order form next June. Oh, and to the older members who knew me: I decided to forgo blue eyes and blond hair for the doll. I just thought that it wouldn't look right in my opinion. Please take no offense campdaan and Dottie, I like your blue eyes, but I don't know how it may grow on me. And I already have one blue-eyed doll, and that's my mannequin Andrea.

If I play my budget cards right, I may be able to put aside some money, about $500 to $700 a month, and still have money to satisfy my appetite for PSP UMD movies, PSP UMD games, Bailey's Irish Cream, Bacardi and Coke, and my hard-to-kick Starbucks habit. On the latter, I found out a way to control that: prepaid reloadable Starbucks Cards. I bought one last year at a drugstore with a $15 initial amount, but I've been having that singular one and been refilling it with $25 every two weeks or so. Once my balance runs out, there's no more Starbucks until next payday so I can reload it. (And I always have a craving for the Starbucks Doubleshot on Ice with Energy and soy milk. Venti [20 fluid ounces] size, no less. And my kryptonite about that is there is a Starbucks kiosk in the Harris Teeter just behind my apartment community, but they're only open from 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM daily. Harris Teeter itself is open 24 hours.) I've been able to cut back dramatically on cigarettes, so I can this time for real make a carton last two weeks. Maybe more, if I'm lucky.

But then, since my responsibilities have been more in a sense, but in another sense, the overall monetary costs have been lessened. Of course, I have a cellular phone bill to pay for, but since all costs between Kat and I are shared, and a spreadsheet outlining both mine and her responsibilities for everything (we go half on everything) shows that we have surplus money at the end of each month. Kat's money gets saved up from her check in her account and is automatically transferred every 3rd of the month, but since I have to do a transfer from one bank to another, and Bank of America doesn't allow recurring transfers "outside the bank", but I find it funny that Navy Federal does. (I think that Bank of America only allows recurring transfers outside the bank on certain accounts, but I don't know which ones.) That means that I have to do it manually each payday.

I feel fine that I have finally got to this point, and every little bit that I'm putting aside for my RealDoll helps.

Well, I'm going to go here, I have a cat's behind on my wrists and she wants attention because she's purring and nudging me. So, I'm going to close here. Your input is welcomed.

w00t!

G'day everyone,.....

Go casperghostboy,.....

Just keep adding to the account as and when you can and you will be holding your own B6 F14 before long.
I think you have made a great choise by the way,...(the fact that a B6 F14 will be my Next companion has nothing to do with it,...trust me! )

Good luck mate.

Playtime.

You sound like a man with a plan, glad to see you're finally on your way.

Not to sound like a nag, but instead of cutting back on the cigs, you should quit that stuff entirely. That's just money (and your health) up in smoke. That would be an extra hundred bucks a month in your account easily.

A couple years ago I had a job near a Starbucks and I was indulging in a $3+ cappuchino daily. It turned out I was spending nearly a hundred a month on coffee! eesh.

Congrats Casper.

Best of Luck to you. I also want to be counted as someone who says "Get rid of Starbucks"...Get a nice coffeemaker.

BTW. Here is a joke I tell...But it's got a ring of truth to it.

I live in a very upscale town. I'm a "Townie"...Been here all my life. The Town did'nt go "upscale" until the 80's Boom. I do customer service and when I mention I've lived in Town all my life, many of my customers seem stunned... Of course I don't live in a 1.5 million dollar mansion like they do...

Here's the joke.

Q. "What does a Townie get at Starbucks ?...."

A. Dirty Looks...

Way to go CGM. You're already close to 13% of the total price of your doll in a few fell strokes. Before you know it, you and Kat will have a new roomate.

casperghostboy,

Good luck with your quest. Have to clear my debts before I can consider saving up for a doll.

CGB...

Good luck with your savings plan. If you can stash away $700 USD per month, then you'll have your new doll in less than a year. Hopefully, no "emergencies" will come along and derail your plans.

Thanks guys, gals and dolls!

Thanks. I am going to try steadily pumping money into that account. Regardless if I make the $7,000 mark earlier than expected, I cannot withdraw that money until the 26th of June 2009. But then monies from my state and federal income tax refunds in 2009 is going to feed the fund, and according to the spreadsheet that I calculated, I would reach my goal within eleven months, so my goal of one year would be attained, and is also realistic. I plan to put $700 from federal and $300 from state refunds, and also $250 each paycheck ($500 a month), so I plan to have my doll in a year.

13 percent already?! Damn! I guess living on your own does have its benefits! I guess my dreams are already coming true so far. I guess that I had to wait until I was better on my feet to get something like this.

I thought that I could get one sooner, but I believe that since living with my family had basically hindered me in many aspects. If my own family couldn't make themselves self-sufficient, then I had no other choice but to leave them up to their own problems to solve themselves. I couldn't seem to support them longer while trying to support myself and my interests.

Basically four people (two humans and two dolls) and one cat right now is not even that crowded, I think, so another virtual roommate wouldn't hurt, and it may even be therapeutic.

sanpedro wrote:

Yep. It seems like living on my own gave me new opportunities. My costs for everything has been better and gave me more money for things, including Starbucks. When that card runs out, no more Starbucks until I load it again, and I cannot dip into available funds in my accounts until that card is loaded.

Which leads to...

I've been told that hundreds of times already, so yeah, I'm going to try. I have the patches already ready for when I am truly ready for myself, but until then, I am good on cutting back on smoking. Even my primary care physician wants me to quit, mostly because of my acid reflux and how it's aggravating it. Not trying to sound like someone who wants to blow you off, but it's hard for me to do so. Even though that could mean an extra hundred or so in my account, but I only pay $30 for a carton (Camel Wides no less), and I buy only two cartons a month (one each payday, every two weeks), so I only pay $60 for smokes before tax. And yes, $60 is a lot to some, especially in times like these. But since I don't drive, I don't need gas money.

Thanks camp... and Dottie. Getting rid of Starbucks is going to be hard at first, but I know it can be done. BTW, I remember one time that in chat you mentioned a certain single-serve coffeemaker that used something, I think called "K-Cups" to make good coffee, but I like mine ice cold, but I can make exceptions if it's good coffee, so if you'd please link that site again, I'd appreciate it.

Nice joke BTW.

Thanks. Don't worry, maybe something would come up and you would be able to get your B6F11 soon. Just keep persevering, you'll get her in no time. I joined TDF back in July 2005. It is now July 2008 and I just started saving up for Rachael. I had so many hardships when I lived with my mother preventing me from saving up for my RealDoll, when I had joined in 2005, her name was going to be Alexandra, but I had retired that name. I now have two dolls of a different caliber (a RSSD Candy Eighteen and a mannequin), but one more wouldn't hurt, and Kat said that is my limit. So, keep your chin up and you may get your RealDoll soon. And what I had learned: Unless you have a good job and good credit, do not think of getting a loan for one. You would be paying about 1/3 more of the doll's cost in interest thinking that you could get your doll quicker, but if you put that money in a moderate-interest savings account, you would get interest paid to you instead of paying interest to your bank, in other words, you would have more money.

Thanks. I had devised a plan where I can pay off my credit card while I am saving up for my doll. I just try to budget my money in the meanwhile, paying debts while putting money into savings at the same time. And looking at my budget, I can do both, and still have money left over.

Emergencies? I sure hope not. But since Kat and I had declared that no matter how desperate my mother is for money, she ain't getting any. She's a big girl, she can figure out her financial troubles for herself. But on my end, I hope not. I might tweak some numbers around in my spreadsheet and see if I can do $700 a month. And looking at bills and such a month, it seems like I can squirrel away $700, but I'd just have to see.

To all:

Thanks. And I am determined to get a RealDoll no matter how stressing it is or whatever. And I can wait a year to get the money for one. I had heard stories here before that some people saved up for two, three, maybe more years to get a RealDoll saving modestly. While the RealDoll is constantly evolving and I may be getting a wholly improved model when it comes my time to order, but all that matters to me is that I am finally getting one and it's sooner than I had thought. And as I said, it took me three years to gain the stability to finally save up for one. It had to take the flight from my mother's nest to my own place to be able to get the money for one. It had to take the courage to tell my mother no when she asks for money. It had to take a carefully-planned, but ever-changing budget to figure out if I could actually both pay bills and debts off while having money to put aside. And it also had to take a special account where I could not touch the money until a predefined period of time to where I can finally touch it or redeposit it into the same account to let it grow again if needed. I can select a period of time from six weeks to five years to where I can touch the money again after putting it away, but I gave myself a year. It helps me restrain myself from dipping into the funds for when I was desperate for something else but detracted me when my plans were for something else.

Well, I need to get me and Kat something to eat, so I'm going to go here. Thanks all and your input is still welcomed.

I'd thought that I might bump up this topic by making an announcement:

I had finally quit smoking. This morning. I looked at the rising costs of everything, including cigarettes, and that was eating dramatically into my RealDoll fund.

So, this morning, I am going to call my mother to come over (she still smokes, and she's 55--we buried the ax, and she realizes that I cannot give her money any longer) and see if she wants some free cigarettes, even though that they are Camel Wides and my mother smokes predominately Doral Full Flavor 100's. She has more bills and such to pay for everything, so about half a carton may help her in a way immeasurable.

So, I am basically saving about an extra $40 a carton, maybe an extra $80-$100 a month that can be used for putting into savings.

I went to the patches, this time my second, so I hope that nothing stressing happens to make me go back to smoking. Kat said that there's a little reward in it for me if I go the full ten weeks of the NRT and stay quit about three weeks afterwards. I hope it's some money to help me get Rachael. I don't want an iTunes card, and I don't want any gift cards... OK, maybe a Starbucks card reload. As long as I get some $ with it to help put into my savings for my RealDoll. That's all that I really want, money.

So, thanks, sanpedro for the advice, but I had the idea in mind already about a month before, in fact, I got the patches the day before moving day at Kmart. I plan to buy more at the Harris Teeter before I run out. I started with Step 1, or 21 mg delivered over 24 hours. And I realized that it would be an extra $100 or so easy in my account each month.

Last quitting attempt was the beginning of this year, and I was on Chantix, but that stuff counteracted with my medications and gave me suicidal thoughts. So, I was told to take myself off that stuff immediately by the doctor who prescribed to me (a psychiatrist) and if I resumed smoking, then that's okay, just give myself some time to think it over and to have me do it on my own terms.

Now I have the munchies, so off to Harris Teeter I go. And I have money already put aside for Rachael from the current paycheck from the Friday before, so that's not any of my worries. And Starbucks is closed. So, I am not getting coffee. You can rest assured of that. I'll see you back in a few.

Peace out,

CGM, CGB_Wife, Daphne, Andrea and Rachael

Hopefully you'll make it this time. Smoking and Starbucks are two vices I fortunately never picked up, and I have enough of them already. Since Dana arrived six months ago, my drinking has decreased somewhat and I go to bed earlier during the week than I used to. I still eat too much pizza, though. Maybe your RD will have a similar effect.

It's a shame interest rates are so lousy these days. My Vanguard money market account pays out less than half what it did last year.

Congratulation on the strong savings plan for the RD F14B6 and way cool on the decision to quit smoking. I quit about four months ago, I can tell you it was on a Thursday afternoon, I had Friday of from work, stayed home all weekend with a lot of booze. I took the patch and also Omega 3 vitamins that was a suggestion to me by a friend, it is supposed to help the brain? I am still not smoking, it was hard! You will go through withdrawals, especially the face and fingers will tingle but in the long run its worth it; Hang in there get your RD and look forward to better health.

Later……………..DB
