Because who is perfect? Swiss mannequins on display

Post by RainLover »

ProInfirmisCH wrote:Disabled mannequins will be eliciting astonished looks from passers-by on Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse today. Between the perfect mannequins, there will be figures with scoliosis or brittle bone disease modelling the latest fashions. One will have shortened limbs; the other a malformed spine. The campaign has been devised for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities by Pro Infirmis, an organisation for the disabled. Entitled "Because who is perfect? Get closer.", it is designed to provoke reflection on the acceptance of people with disabilities. Director Alain Gsponer has captured the campaign as a short film.
Touches something deep in the heart, doesn't it? The joy on the models' faces seeing themselves as mannequins was just priceless.

If they need broken mannequins, I have plenty to offer.

Anyway, all joking aside, I don't think this is a good idea.
I agree that we should expose the disabled, but I don't think this is the right way to do it.

A mannequin in a wheelchair would be good, but a deformed mannequin will not work.
Since many mannequins are abstract, nobody will know the deformity and assume it's part of the art.

I've noticed many mannequins that are not in proportion - but it's not meant to highlight any specific disability.

Are BoyToys, TeddyBabes and Real Solid Sex Dolls supposed to be in proportion? No, of course not. Many other fantasy dolls are not in proportion.

What about forms and torsos? They're missing part or all of their limbs. Nobody would think of it as deformed or disabled.

That was really touching, and all the people involved were very brave to be part of the project.

As a person with a disability, I find that display offensive.
We try so hard here to show case their ABILITIES, not their disabilities.

The point of the display is to showcase the models as people worthy of the same respect as the idealized models typically found in store windows. I believe it accomplishes that. Did you watch the video?

re "Did you watch the video?" by Rain Lover
I watched the video.

Anyway, if I wanted a doll with a disability, I'd buy one of those oops dolls that I occasionally see from doll companies, at a cheaper price.

By the way Netwit, I remember you had a video under your screen name of a laughing disabled girl a few months ago.

There's also a forum member here that has a picture of a boy with Mongoloid under his screen name.

I'll give another example:
I have a crossed eye.
Now imagine I came across a mannequin like that.
I'd feel very embarrassed if I passed that mannequin with a group of people that I know.
I can just imagine people, such as workers, saying to me, (or to each other) did you see that mannequin, that looks just like me.
People who know me would probably end up calling that mannequin by my name.
So in the end, such a mannequin would be a mockery of me, opposite of what it was intended to do.

The mannequins in this display don't have eyes. Your argument is invalid.

Rain Lover, nice mannequin video. I highly doubt this girl, in the video is a mannequin

The others are obviously all mannequins.
If the above girl is a mannequin, then I will immediately try to find out who makes her and fly to Paris if I have to, since it seems the scenes were shot there.

Yes, I miss that Icon. A happy t-girl laughing with her friends. I've decided to find it again and use it. I missed Schlitzie.
Just in time too; I decided I hated the gif of BabyJane I'd been using:

that head rolling movement disturbed me when I was reading posts.

Hi Rainlover, thank´s for sharing the video. It´s time to visit Paris again, it´s been a few years. I guess Brigitte would like to come with me.
