New Interview on Vice with Davecat (Feb 2014)

Post by LaDollyVita »

Here is the link: http://www.vice.com/read/silicone-love- ... d-mistress

Via Davecat's Blog: http://www.kuroneko-chan.com/echoes/

The interesting thing to me here is not the interview itself, since I have followed Davecat for years there is no real new information, but the comments section is surprisingly balanced! Maybe it's that the audience of Vice is more open-minded by default, but I hope this is a trend.

I read a bunch of those comments.
Too many of them would suggest that we who appreciate the company of a beautiful and lifelike silicone (or fabric, fiberglass or TPE) companion are somehow less well adjusted than others.
Fine. Doesn't bother me a bit! After all, have you ever met a "normal" person? :-)
The one label I will NOT wear as a result of my "dollishness" is "Loser". IMO, all of those angry, frustrated people sitting behind their keyboards throwing anonymous stones at me, THEY are the losers, period.

Tbolt I totally agree with you, Dolls are so much fun and great conversation starters to those who will listen. I love my dolls and my family who know of my dolls.

I like the guy. He is a nice person.
Some people are in love with shoes, cars, food... Why can't so someone love a doll? A doll looks like a human and it doesn't hurt you... I can understand it very well.

I understand what you mean here, but it's important to note that Davecat, and others, myself included, love our dolls differently and much more so than we love shoes, cars, or food. I think this is the reason some feel it crosses some "line" in the sand. That said, I realize your comment is meant to be supportive. Thank you!

Regarding the comments on Vice to the interview, yes, there are some dissenting and tactless responses, but I found overall there to be more supportive comments than usual - for those that have read past media articles and ventured into the comments section you know what I mean. It is a long slow road to acceptance, but all things in good time. :-)

i just wish they would show the broader variety of doll owners with these interviews and documentaries. not everyone has the same relationship with their doll that davecat does, some people have dolls just for sex, while others use them strictly for photography. who knows, we might win some people over if they saw how we all treat our dolls differently.

Well, keep in mind that Davecat is one of the few people willing to do such interviews. I'm very open about my dolls with my family, friends, and coworkers, but all it took for me to become extremely media-wary was one semi-positive but nonetheless weirded-up work of fiction in a British magazine that was only loosely based on my interview. So I have to admire Davecat's perseverance, because even though past exposure has depicted him in a more sensationalistic light, he's pressed on and finally begun to find outlets willing to tell an honest story.

And in my opinion, what's significant about Davecat and those like him is that the dolls are about much more than sex. If your only reason for having dolls amounts to them being 3D porn, then it wouldn't be that different than "normal" folks parading around their Fleshlights and vibrators. So while I admit I'm a bit biased in this regard, I think people who have dolls as artificial companions, and their various reasons for doing so, are a far more relevant human-interest story than those for whom it's merely a hobby. Sure, it may seem weird to some people, but if we have to tone down certain aspects of doll ownership in order to gain greater acceptance, then are we really being accepted?

You never truly feel that another person loves you. You can only react to the way they behave towards you. And when I look in Caley's eyes and see that same bittersweet longing I feel for her, whatever part of my brain knows it's not real doesn't seem to care...
