150 more kilometres to go . . .

She filled up the car


right to the top


and seeing her standing there

an ambulance lady came across to check her out. At the petrol station where I parked to pay for the petrol the ambulance men were most intrigued by Chloé and asked if she might want some oxygen. Chloé answered their silly question with some silly answer and we went on our way.

Eventually, we arrived, a little late in the afternoon


and Chloé greeted her employer


but before starting work she wanted to stretch her legs and see around the garden


She'd heard there was a swimming pool


and thought this was rather small so announced


that she was going to see if she could find it.


There was a bar in the garden


and thought what a fun place it must be with people around in the summer wistfully dreaming


of the excitement of people around, but quite enjoying the peace all by herself.


Then she found the pool


and day dreamed in reflections in the water.


Finally she decided


it was time for work and stopping by the front door,


the dog said "hello" with whom she made friends.


Her first task was to try the piano to see how much it had gone out of tune.

Her first task was to try the piano


to see how much it had gone out of tune


She soon got to work setting the pitch at A=440



and listening very carefully to the three strings making up the note


telling me


that with two instruments together



it was essential to be even more accurate -

and so she started to work through the first piano tuning every string


After a while


she said she needed to check the other instrument


and found it hadn't been looked after like the other one and was horribly out of tune.

By this time some guests had arrived and she sat down

waiting to meet them.

They all started with drinks in the kitchen so she was invited to come over and join them.


Well . . . Chloé's quite an unusual lady, and as there's a first time for everything, she became rather weak at the knees and needed help from one of them to regain her stance


Quickly making friends


she was plied with drinks


I think they wanted to get her drunk so as to find out about all my secrets. . . . But she was tight lipped about those and the conversation was to the merriment of all



sometimes verging on serious discussion


but it became a bit heated



and flared up quite alarmingly



and it was decided that alcohol


perhaps wasn't a good idea.

Chloé was in rather a mood


saying that she didn't want dinner after that and simply went over to rest


peacefully relaxing

preparing for her work ahead.

After dinner and the guests had gone, she started work again on the second instrument


painstakingly bringing it up to pitch


It was a long job and she told me to go to bed as it would take her all night.

Luckily she works without anyone hearing her so no-one was disturbed but by the morning


she had reached the very last note

She sat there playing

for a little while and after a final adjustment of just one string that had slipped she said that


it was time to go.

It was a long drive

She stood there somewhat studying her surroundings


and after observing what other people were doing


went over


to read the menus herself



before deciding to go inside.
