For what I understand that 15kg mentioned on website is some kind of mistake and doll actually weights about 9kg? I haven't weighted how heavy she is but that's what I read from somewhere before and my delivery package was weighted about 12kg.hollows+fentiman wrote:I mentioned the weight issue on another post because one of DS's selling points was that the plastic skeleton reduced weight. I looked at 1am's Riley, a 100cm doll from their stable with a metal skeleton. She's down as being 26 pounds. Eve and Eva were on the website as being 15 kg which is just over 33 pounds!

Would be interesting to know what breaks from the hip, if it's the vertical hip bone then I suppose replacing such big part close to her private parts would be quite difficult.Paleonaturist wrote:After about three to four days with me, her left hip went limp - during play, but with no palpable break or audible sound - I placed her in a position, and when I lifted her from it, her leg flopped.
Good if you can enjoy her as decoration, but I must keep her in box hidden on times I'm not "playing" with her. She is pretty so it's tough choice am I going to sell her after repairing the spine joint, or do I take my chances and live with her until next joint cracks... sigh.Paleonaturist wrote: With all the trouble these exquisite little ladies have been, I had thought to "delete" Kimi from my life - but one look at her little face, that delectable, slender body ... nah. Can't do it. Even though she's partially paralysed, she's still a delight, and she's not going anywhere

Re: Did your DS-mini arrive intact?
You can see from the attached that at the end of the pelvis there are two lugs which only allow movement forward and back. The joint below it allows the leg to go outwards. Once you come to the outward limit, the pressure is on the pelvis lugs and that's what snaps.
The joint above the pelvis into the torso had a plastic screw in section which snaps. The joint itself can then move out of alignment and bend forward or backward, pushing either into the silicone at the back or belly. I think if this is not repaired it will eventually poke through! As for the 'hip' joint, with it being two parts, again I think this may be a future issue if the lower joint goes out of alignment. The broken edges are really sharp!

Re: Did your DS-mini arrive intact?
There's a lot more on this subject in the 'mini doll broken spine' and DS mini Eva topics that may help.
Personally, I don't think you'll get a glue to work properly on the ABS plastic and, although an ABS solvent cement may hold for a while, I think the plastic is just not strong enough. Some new joints appear to be made of nylon which will be better but that pelvis is a poor design in the first place unless you are very gentle with movement of the legs. When I receive my new parts I'll let you know if the design has changed.
Just a footnote here.... The 'midriff' joint can easily bend forwards, which is what happened in my Eva1 and that is where the vagina is! Don't ignore this joint or you'll feel it big time!

I'm quite certain there's some wear going on - in Kimi's right thigh, especially, as that break is lower than the one in her left. Broken edges, surrounded by softness ... not a good mix.
I don't think that 15kg was ever a correct weight for the DS mini - IIRC, it was more like 9kg.

My attempts to ABS glue a tab back onto the DS-mini thigh survived only 2lbs for a short period of time before snapping.hollows+fentiman wrote:Hi Pumpster!

I think I'll try a mass of epoxy+metal pins as a test next. (Removed generation 1 thigh, only used for testing of repair methods atm)

Re: Did your DS-mini arrive intact?
I don't think we have much of a choice! The videos from DS look as though it could be an easy closure but the art must be in making a clean cut first through the upper layer. As you go deeper in towards the joint it is harder to continue that clean cut and you have to make several cuts. When I did my first cut on Eva1 it was very nervy but I knew a replacement doll was on its way! However, because of the 'sticky' nature of the silicone I can close up the cuts without really noticing them.
I suppose when I eventually apply Sil-Poxy after repair of the joints I won't have much time to do any adjustment so I'll practice without the 'glue' first!

Re: Did your DS-mini arrive intact?
Yea my main idea for my knee was to drill it out, then flood with epoxy glue and insert a metal insert.hollows+fentiman wrote:Good move DarkOne! When I get my new parts (no consignment note yet!) I'll remove Eva1's joints and try that too. I have some ABS solvent cement now but from your earlier experiments I didn't want to try to repair in situ. I've looked at the possibility of making them in aluminium or brass which will be easier to work than steel but the design may have to change with fixing several plates together. Again, I'll have to wait until I remove the old broken parts so I can see each end properly. At the moment I can't see how the shoulder is fixed at its outer end and I need the new part to work out how to extract it! As for the pelvis, I suppose I could screw in a plate with new lugs but the plastic is very brittle and I can't see that method holding for long.
But with the little gear teeth on the knee I decided using the stock thigh was easier. As their new design uses a nylon insert you can't really glue that in so I decided just to swap the entire thigh.
I also noticed the thigh was 'solid', flooded by some kind of glue or injected with more ABS, even though its definitely a 2 peice mold screwed together. Thus drilling it out to accept an insert would have been much more work. I suspect generation 2 DS-mini's might be lighter then generation 1.
Re: Did your DS-mini arrive intact?
Agreed it was very nerve racking to make those first cuts. I found spreading the silicone with my fingers, and using personal lube on the blade itself helped (though the lube wears off after a few inches)LoneRanger wrote:I would only do this to my doll if I had some practice and could convince myself I knew what the I was doing. But as no one volunteered me a doll to slice and dice, none of my other 4 dolls volunteered either, shameful little hussies that they are. That and the limited options available in the USA. Soon we will have a black market for body parts and little Francinestien Monsters roaming the bedrooms of America.
The first cut you must do as smoothly as you can, but don't worry about getting full depth.
I was considering chopping up an old silicone onahole for practice but decided against it since the silicone was nothing like DS.
