Movie about a doll lover on German TV

[Aralor]

Several weeks ago there was a movie in German TV with doll lover content.

This mini movie (45 minutes) was one in a series about a young lawyer who has uncommon cases and the question for the viewer is always: guilty or not guilty.

This episode called "Lydia" is about a nerdy software developer who was divorced from his wife, after she cheated him.

I don’t know if this link will work for all, because they say that this movie can only be seen on the internet by people from Germany, Austria or Switzerland. So I will give you some screenshots to tell the story in short form. Also for non-german speakers.

His anger was so big, that he ordered a baseball bat. In his mind, he takes revenge / protecting his love from further attacks.

At the court with his lawyer. The jury can’t understand why he reacted such furious because of a lifeless thing:

A psychological expert witness explains that it is a common phenomenon called Agalmatophilia (love for statues, mannequins and dolls). Mostly men between 40 and 65 will be affected. This love can last longer than regular ones with real women, because the mind’s illusion of a perfect relationship will be projected into the doll. And his final statement: loving a doll can be just as strong and real as a love to a human being:

Interesting post. Thanks for the synopsis, as I don't speak German. IMO, more of a reason to NOT let others know of your collection, as you never know what people's reactions might be. In addition to someone damaging them, I could imagine someone breaking in to get a cheap thrill. One never knows . . .

von Schirach is known to base his stories on real crime cases but I really can´t recall to have heard about such a case at all. Now I wonder if he was inspired by the films Lars and the Real Girl and Monique, and by the article based on an interview with me in ZEIT Magazine.

It's the details of doll loving from unboxing to falling in love, which makes me wonder to see on TV. I loved the last scene, where he doesn't care anymore about other peoples opinions and takes his Lydia outdoors to share his inflatible canoe hobby.
