The Life of Alita (WM 157B #368)

Post by AtomicPunk »

Welcome everyone to The Life of Alita.

She's a WM 157B, head #368 released July 2020. I ordered her from Silicone Lovers and received her on Aug 17, only 42 days after they swiped my credit card. I could try to describe the experience of a first doll, but it would take a thousand posts. The experience of unpacking her, washing her, and putting her together for the first time was zen like. And when the participatory planning of clothes, hair, accessories and makeup all came together tonight it was as if i had waved a magic wand .... and out came something that reflected who I am as well ... Alita.

Our dolls are such fragile beings and deserve all the care and respect we can give them, because of the perfection they give us in return. As I have seen with many doll folk in these parts, I can't resist taking pictures, it just seems natural for dolls to be photographed. I am going to have ALOT of fun with Alita. Thanks for this creative community.

ORIGINS

Alita was born in Paris, France. She grew up in the 4th Arrondissement, not far from the Place des Vosges. She has fond memories as a child playing in the tree-lined city parks and walks along the Seine with her mother. Father used to take her to a local restaurant, Chez Janou, for all the Chocolate Mousse she could eat. Her father was an architect specializing in historical restoration. Mom ran a specialty boutique of antique and retro clothing. Alita had a passion for ballet. She had dreams of joining the ballet but just didn't get accepted to the Academy. None the less, she kept dancing.

When Alita was a teenager, Father received a lucrative job offer in New York City, so the family moved to Brooklyn. It was a bit of a culture shock for Alita. New York was a big city like Paris but lacked the charm and friendliness she had been accustomed to. She spent her social time dancing at clubs in the West Village and the occasional rave. Alita started painting and drawing to pass the time, often sitting in the local cafe and sketching the variety of characters that came in. Her father encouraged her to follow in his footsteps as an architect, but she loved to dance.

At the dismay of her parents, Alita elected not to go to college. For a few years, she studied dance at a local Academy, but due to the heavy competition, offers were rare. She tried auditioning for several musicals and shows. The parts were minimal and hardly paid the rent, but she couldn't shake the desire to make a career out of her passion. One audition she found herself being asked to 'do something extra' to get the part. Alita refused and walked. No fame was worth degrading herself. She started to reconsider her career choice. As she was about to give in and agree to college, a friend of the family living in upstate NY was interested in starting a yoga studio. Alita wanted nothing more than to teach dance classes and set up shop. So she packed her bags and headed north.

It took some time and patience, but eventually, Alita's classes took off and she was busy teaching dance to kids and teens.

One mid-week night she stopped at a diner for dinner. She noticed a rollerskating rink shared the parking lot. She could see a small crowd waiting to get in, the thump of a disco beat coming from inside. On a whim, she decided to check it out. Standing in line, she saw a guy with a Paris St. Germain soccer jersey and pair of quad skates. They struck up a conversation. He had been skating for years and offered to teach her. As a dancer, rollerskating felt like ballet on wheels. And from that moment on, they fell in love.

Congratulations Spidersense. Alita is beautiful. LOVE those freckles! They are perfect for her.

Yes. Taking pictures of your girl does seem right. It’s very addictive. You will find yourself always thinking of the next shot.

Great backstory.

It's important that the Fleeb is rubbed, because the Fleeb has all of the Fleeb Juice."
That leaves you with a regular old Plumbas.

Wow. Looks like someone met a really fun and exciting European girl!

When I first saw that face, it looked like a bit of a Caucasian/Asian mix. I don’t see that anymore. Totally new and unique look you’ve made spidersense. Nicely done and congrats!

Did you have the freckles done at the factory?

Awww.. thanks for the kudos fellow dollsters!

CouplesAdventure: Alita's freckles are "homegrown". Just a brown eyeliner pencil, with a slight cover of bronze shadow underneath the eyes and down the center of her nose. Apparently lots of girls on YouTube make their own freckles all the time (thus tutorials). Who knew?

NoobNoob: By far the hardest part was waiting for her factory photos. After 3 weeks I was almost convinced that the whole custom doll thing was a scam or my order had been lost in a black hole. After the photos came in, i had no anxiety at all, even through shipping.

As far as Alita's signature look goes: I ended up with 3 wigs from the vendor, and found the spunky orange cosplay a few weeks ago on Wish. I was extremely skeptical about the orange wig, but I put it on Alita... and BAM, it worked. No combing, simple styling, no trimming. Thick wig too. I have two more colors on order already. It's definitely going to be her go-to.

Sad to say on her first night Mademoiselle suffered two small skins to the knees as I was flipping her over to dress. Add a heat gun to the lady's shopping list.

sooooo.....

After a nice dinner (I cooked and forgot to take photos, LOL) we decided to try something else for the evening. Elegant and soft...and an antique rabbit fur shawl. Some are evening photos, and a few are "first morning" shots as the sun came in the window.

Alita has now been home for just 48 hours.

-------------------------------------

ME: (from the other room) "You know Alita, the folks at the Doll Forum said that having you would make my home life better. What's going on? The house is a disaster! There's corn starch everywhere, the bed's a mess, i found your eyelash on the floor, your clothes and makeup aren't put away, there's dishes in the sink, the cat's litter needs to be replaced, and I'm starving!"

ALITA: "Well, what do you expect me to do about it"?

Really nice job on the freckles spidersense. I’ll take a look as well since we’ll need to reapply Leeloo’s at some point.

Both looks are very unique and striking. Love that fur coat on her!

On a side note, our order officially shipped today!

Wonderful news on shipping! I look forward to hearing about your "adventures"

Alita's freckles are hanging in there, but it's already fading on day 3. It's really hard to get a tiny freckle using the mascara pencil, even super sharp. It doesn't seem to stick well on contact, you have to twirl or agitate to get it to imprint. I've heard to stay away from eye liner markers, but I'm looking into something that will help me define tiny freckles for detail. Always a work in progress!
