New to me Kayla 145

Greetings, This 145 Kayla is a 2015 model new to me. She has been hanging unprotected in long term storage, having a mild musty odor about her.

Does anyone know how that musty odor can be neutralized?

I speak from experience.

I just purchased a second hand DS doll 145 in October that had been hanging in the cupboard for a couple years and had a rather strong musty odor when she arrived.

I bathed and powered her thoroughly at the start (which helped a little) but the main thing that reduced it significantly was just leaving her outside in the open, be it on clean bed sheets / sitting on a chair, in a room with good air circulation. Eventually the smell reduced significantly (it might take a couple of weeks at the start)

I notice the musty odor redevelops once you leave her back in the cupboard for a few hrs so do take note...

Thanks spf1245, yours are encouraging words. Silicone being non porous I figured it'd be easier to wash away the musty smell. I'm still thinking there must be something that can help. I don't know why I think of lemon juice, I may try washing her with lemon juice.

If you do have to store her in a closet just put an open box of baking soda or some baking soda in a bowl in the closet with her. Baking soda absorbs moisture and odors and makes things smell much fresher.

We'll I did not try the lemon juice.. She's soaking in a hot bath with bleach and a little laundry soap. I did squeeze the oil out of lemon rind and wiped it in and around Kayla's mouth and let it set there a while. Then rinsing her mouth with water and drying. Her mouth now has a faint lemony smell without the musty. It would've been crazy to squeeze lemon rind all over her body, plus there is some staining to get out, I'm hoping the bleach does that.

Isn't it amazing how DS dolls still look almost brand new after so many years? I bought an older DS and she's in better shape than some of my newer dolls! DS/EX has absolutely fabulous silicone quality. I emailed the company asking why and they told me they do in-house QC testing on their silicone.

Your Kayla 145 is GORGEOUS and I'm sure she'll stay that way for a long time! Thanks for sharing her pics!

BTW, a little bleach & water solution at 50ppm might help with any musty storage problems. A light spray followed by a clean rinse could help.

Hi, nice Kayla!
It's interesting to see how the Kayla face has 'changed' over the years.
I'm assuming this is the slightly smaller version meant for the 145cm bodies, but I can still see the subtle differences between this face & the one I have for my Evo167

I pray she doesn't have standing bolts and that her Vag/Anus tubes are sealed tightly.

Yes, she' a 145. A 2015 model, was in longterm storage saw very little use.

She's not a standing doll, loose joints and sealed inside. I worked at keeping the top of her neck above water. Two days had her smelling sweet as a daisy.. well, not quite a daisy, more like fresh linen.
