Re: Problem with the doll album
All I was trying to do, was help you guys, but so far, all the thanks I'm getting is being attacked on how you can't understand the word format...
Is this so hard to understand: http://www.dollalbum.com/dollgallery/albums/userpics/*usernumber*/normal_*filename*
You need to change 2 things in there, the usernumber, and the filename.
That's all there is to it...
You get the usernumber by going to someone's gallery you want to take a picture from, the number is right at the top, in your address bar...
And then you go to the actual picture you want, and copy the filename at the bottom.
Put those two pieces of information in the http bit, and presto... a working link.
And yes, you need to type that entire piece of http stuff.

There's absolutely no need for the rude behaviour. If you don't like something you can be polite about it. Siliventurer tried to do something he thought would mean that members were less affected by piracy (as no solution has been perfect).siliconelover wrote: How about how we all feel ??? Meaning all members here that have a Doll Album. Why can't it be our decision whether our photographs can be downloaded and saved with a simple click like it was or go to a more complicated 'thing' ???
My feelings are clear, It should be our vote as they are our photographs. Leave it how it was. 'Criminals' are always going to find a way around security for something they want. I don't like seeing my photographs on others sites anymore than anyone else does, but the fact is that it is going to happen. Put a watermark on it, they can/will remove it. It is up to us as individules to go after those who steal. Furthermore, other than Stacy, (for all I know) no one else here is getting paid for their photographs of their dolls. As a professional, she would have the biggest legitimate complaint. Care to get involved in this one Stacy ?
I would like to put the matter to a vote please.
SL
All this complaining is why we can't have nice things.
Reminds me of the time I upgraded the chat software to a significantly more stable version and all I heard about was the fact that the pukey smiley was gone.
You guys kill me sometimes.
I should have some time to talk to Siliventurer tomorrow and get something worked out. Please avoid berating Alex or anyone else until then.

Excuse me, but who is 'attacking' you ?
Re: Problem with the doll album
Hiya, hope I didn't seem like I was attacking you - I'm not. I used to do computer training and having to access two different pages for bits of information, then combining them into one working http link can be a daunting task for folks who aren't used to doing this sort of thing. The fact that some people are used to "click-n-go" ease makes this very difficult or not worth the effort for them.AlexKnight wrote:I just wanted to give a way for people to get to the links of their pictures.

In my opinion, the doll gallery needs to be linked to our forum logins. If a registered user is active past the "newbie stage" they should be allowed to download pictures from the gallery normally. Anyone else should be locked out of seeing the full sized pictures. That would actually be more secure than the overlay measures. I can steal pictures with ease if I'm allowed to view them.

Again, pardon me but we have a right to publicly not agree with things that we don't agree with.
In my opinion, we HAD a nice thing and it has been taken away.

So do you guys.
Re: Problem with the doll album
I appreciate your attempting to shed some light on this. Sometimes the simplest things/phrases to someone who is computer savvy just come off as incomprehensible to those who haven't that deep a background in computers.
You second explanation made a lot more sense to me. Thanks.
Sometimes during conversations with my web guy I find my mind fading off into M.A.S.H re-runs....time stops and I find myself nodding yes, yes like an idiot, a lot.
I hope your web guy can keep it simple...for simpletons like me
Respectfully, P

That's a great tip! Works in Windows version of FireFox too:Rob_J wrote:In Firefox (Mac version, I haven't tried Windows) right click on the large picture like always, but select "View Image Info". You'll get a window labeled "Page Info" with two images on it. Click the top image, then click the "Save As..." button underneath.

Re: Problem with the doll album
Hi folks, looks like there is much debate about this issue. However, as much as I respect everyone's opinions on the matter, let me be clear on a few things:siliconelover wrote:

In my opinion, we HAD a nice thing and it has been taken away.
1) A protection system will be put in place to protect people's work as every piece of content created is technically copyrighted by the owner who has produced that work. No one is in a position to challenge otherwise and demand that other people's creative work be subject to their free will use without the consent from the original owner. We have been provided with more than sufficient evidence of abuse to warrant this course of action.
2) This and any sites under the CoverDoll Group are not content piracy sites. That means we do not leave the sites open and unenforced so that the content can be possibly misused even to the most serious extent. That would mean we would take any means necessary to prohibit or minimize anything illegal in nature from occurring even if this provides an inconvenience to some degree.
Lastly, as far as the argument about having to deal with the inconveniences of other people's wrongdoings, how about lodging that same argument vocally the next time you have to go through a security scanner at the airport checkpoint right then and there and see how far you get with that.

We are not at an airport trying to prevent planes from being blown up. Just like a mod because of something they feel is right to take others comments completely out of context. We are the members of a doll interest group. Very small in community. I just want to continue to be able to save and collect photograph's of dolls that I admire and use them as a backround on my computer or to look at if I wish. That is a compliment to the photographer and their hard work. Personally, it is one of my main interests.
I still suggest a vote/poll. Even though this is not our forum, the photograph's that are in the Doll Album do belong to us and we should be able to have a say in this matter. Everyone with any power these days are trying to idiot proof the world and those that aren't are trying to make it harder to do anything.

Re: Problem with the doll album
Well, technically your photographs belong to you. Nobody else's photographs belong to you. As I have said repeatedly, we are working on creating a more robust solution to the issue. Your concerns will be addressed. If I have to spend time arguing here that's time I take away from beating the web guy into submission and making him my bitch.siliconelover wrote:

So, give us a couple of days.

Completely understood and I think that any of us that uploads photographs of our dolls knows and expects others to view, save and have fun with the photos and as long as someone else is not using your photos for personal gain or for commercialism it is fine for them to have and possess.
You yourself are speaking of the lack of time that you have to spend here. This is probably my main point, I spend a ton of time here as it is and to jump through a bunch of additional hoops just to copy and save one photograph will in the end of a week, month, year really add up to a shit load of more and unnecessary time that could be better spent.
