Chapter 2: Mother?

Everything went back to normal at home. Frost did not seem to be shaken in the least about what I told him. Jessica continued to be her same silly self. I, on the other hand, am full of confusion. What is happening to me? How did those books have my name in them? Why are they here in the USA?

Katie: Jessica, I want to go back to that building.

Jessica: Are you crazy? With what happened to you there? No Way!

Katie: I have to. I need to know what this means. I need to know what this all has to do with me.

Jessica: Are you sure about this? Maybe we should bring Frost with us.

Katie: No. I won't involve him in this. Not until I know more. I will not put his life at risk. Let's go.

Upon arrival at the building entrance, I began to feel a strange sensation in my bones.

Katie: Maybe this was a bad idea.. Let's go back Jessica.

Jessica: No way Katie. You wanted to return to this creepy shit hole, now we are here. I know you're afraid, so am I; but we need to find out what is happening to you.

As I reached for the door handle, a strong gust of cold air blew past us. I grabbed the handle, and the entire building turned to ice.

Jessica: Uh... Katie.

(the sound of ice cracking can be heard)

Jessica: Katie Get back!!





A bright flash of light blinds us. When the light fades, the wind is gone. When I look up, I see.. an open field?

Katie: The building. Where did it go? This is impossible! Buildings don't just vanish!

Jessica: I'm not even sure if this is reality anymore. Someone wake my ass up already..

Katie: Jess, look, there's something over here.. A book?

Jessica: Ehh.. A building comes, a building goes, and now a book is left in the grass. I need to go get drunk.

Katie: Stop goofing around and come here.

I don't understand the writing. Oddly enough, the words are speaking to me in my head. The book title makes no sense. "Katie Angela Floren, Queen of the Ice Mages" How can the book have my name in it? Why does it say queen? I'm no queen..

I began to read the first page. "Dear Katie, my love, my joy. I hope this book finds you before it is too late. They are coming for you. You are in great danger, my sweet Katie. You must protect yourself. Time is running out. I love you, your mother, Samantha Amber Floren"





Katie: Mother? This can't be...

Jessica: Huh? What does it say Katie?

Katie: The note on the first page was written by my mother to me? Why would she write a book directed to me? How could it be right here, thousand's of miles from home; left behind after a building vanishes?

Jessica: Hmm..

(A women's voice comes from the book)

Voice: Katie, I'm afraid they have found you. My love, you are in grave danger, you must not be caught. Resist them at all costs

(The voice fades as it repeats "I love you Katie")

Katie: Mother? Don't go....

{The book begins to disappear)

Katie: Wait, no! Don't leave me!!





(The book vanishes)

Jessica: Who are you talking to? I didn't hear anything. The book is gone though.. So wierd...

Katie: I need to leave.

Jessica: OK, I'm sure Frost is worried.

Katie: I need to go away for awhile.

Jessica: Are you crazy? You are not leaving us!

Katie: I have to, I won't risk you two getting hurt.

Jessica: What the hell is wrong with you? We are your family! You will not just abandon us, nor us you. If you are in some sort of danger, we will protect you.

Katie: (thinking to herself) My mother, me a Queen, Ice Mages, none of this seems real. I need answers, but I am not sure I want them...

(A voice behind the tress can be heard)

Voice: That's her, the mage girl! Gather the troops!!

Katie: Wait. Do you hear that?

Katie: Jessica RUN!

Voice: Grab the girl!





Jessica: What the hell are they Katie? Why are they after us??

Katie: I have no idea, over there! take cover behind the rock!!

(Strange figures continue to run past them)

(voices are heard from afar)

Voice: Halt! She is around here somewhere. That mage couldn't of gone far. SPREAD OUT!

Jessica: (whispering) Katie, they said mage, are they after you?

Katie: (whispering) I have no idea..

(The sound of twigs snapping can be heard)

(Katie begins to glow)

Katie: Jessica stand back.





Voice: There she is! Take her!!

Katie: (an inner voice speaks) The Ice of Floren blood. Stop them Katie!





Jessica: You did it! Yah! Take that you ugly turd!!

Jessica: Woh... No! Katie!





Jessica: Katie! Wake up! Katie! Crap, I got to get us out of here.....

Jessica: Let's go Elfy. Oomph, damn you're heavy.. No time like the present Jessica, move your booty like you mean it!





Several hours later..

Katie: Mmmm, what happened?

Frost: Shh. Jessica said you passed out. Get some rest baby girl.

Frost: (whispering) Jessica go to your room, you are going to tell me everything. I can't believe you put her is such danger.

Jessica: Oh come on! It was

Frost: Quiet! Get moving.

Jessica: (mumbles as she walks away) Tch, it was her idea...

Frost: I love you Katie. Don't ever forget that.
