Ok, more progress.

Here's the feathering with the ZAR putty.
It tends to shrink a little so I'll probably need to sand this and give it one more coat - like spackling a drywall bead.
I've found that the AARP cards I get in the mail make great flexible putty applicators. :)

MF! You totally need to drill a hole in that pucker, and install a bike horn behind it! That way, on the instroke, you can have the world's first honking spider!!! :haha4:

LOL LW, perhaps a small whoopie cushion would make a more appropriate sound?
Well, maybe inappropriate.

Thanks ChikkinNoodul! :)

So far things are going well.
Another coat of ZAR putty did the trick to finish the feathering...

There's just a couple of places to touch up but I'll worry about that when I'm ready to paint.

The next thing is to finish the skull cap connection and get the eyes done.
I'm really wanting to give her the eye system that I did for Abby so the eyes and eyelids can be moved, so we'll see how that goes.

I did a little work yesterday on the moveable eye unit.
It will require that area around the eyes be replaced with a 3d printed piece with sockets - probably like a goggle shape.
I used Meshmixer to re-sculpt the eye area slightly...

The 3d scan was made with the Xbox Kinect and Reconstructme software.

Hopefully with makeup and lashes she'll look something like this...

Outstanding use of CAD, 3d printing, hacked Orwellian microsoft devices, open source software, and imagination.

Well you know, I read in Science Today magazine when MF was in grade school he borrowed his dads drafting set when he heard they were going to make cut out hearts for valentines day!

Guess that explains everything.

How do you plan to move the eyes? Remote wire or some sort of Arduino with XBee and servos?

LOL RK, unfortunately that only explains my drafting OCD.
Well, also maybe why nobody ever liked my unique square heart Valentines day gifts.

Hi Agalmato,
So far, the eyes will just be manually moveable.
I'm a complete idiot when it comes to working with electronics, which is a whole field unto itself. I'm just wanting a way to re-position and change out the eyes and have them be able to close for a sleeping look.

You may be thinking of something like this?

The files for the printed parts can be downloaded here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:172505
Of course you'd need to get all the electronics components and have the skills to put it together.

Actually, I would stay away from the electronics as well. I would use wires. There are some vids on this on Stan Winston YouTube channel. I can dig up the links if you're interested.

Sure, feel free to post links.

I've given some thought to putting some small neodymium cylinder magnets in the eyeballs right behind the iris that would allow the eyes to be moved around by moving something metallic or another magnet in front of the face. They would have to be pretty free moving for this to work though- not sure they would hold their position very well.
