Re: Sex Dolls Could Be Hacked And Murder Their Owners
Oh, "speaking with the Daily Star," huh? That bastion of journalism, lol. I quote them a lot, but I don't like it!Mike Wehner for BGR wrote:Speaking with the Daily Star, Patterson notes that the potential for hackers to target robots designed for intimacy could put users at risk.
“Hackers can hack into a robot or a robotic device and have full control of the connections, arms, legs and other attached tools like in some cases knives or welding devices,” Patterson says. “Often these robots can be upwards of 200 pounds, and very strong. Once a robot is hacked, the hacker has full control and can issue instructions to the robot. The last thing you want is for a hacker to have control over one of these robots. Once hacked they could absolutely be used to perform physical actions for an advantageous scenario or to cause damage.”
The next paragraph is an indictment of the Internet of Things (IoT), not sex robots, per se. Simply not allowing the bot to direct-connect to an insecure network, especially one attached to the outside world, would prevent virtually all vectors of attack, not to mention using a hardware firewall like a Linux server to just sit between the house and the internet.
But the article didn't mention any of these things, because it just exists to create fear or at least apprehension towards robots. Describing the IoT without mentioning it was also a red flag. I hope everyone reading this article is savvy enough to tell this is just a hit piece on the future of sex robots just to get a rise out of readers.
NOTE TO OTHER MEMBERS: Read Rule 7d before making an URL-only post. I've added the context for this article this time, but in general, a post should never be just a bare link with no text. Thank you.

I also remember when both Sony and Microsoft said they would be making online a feature to their PS3 and Xbox One's. There where fear stories going around about people making custom viruses to let them steal user information.
