My Cammy diary and running review. (Dagmar doll from BD)

Yep her left arm is the same, now quite floppy but can't stay up. Right now only right arm and neck are still holding tight. I bet you that's what happened, like you mentioned with the PVC breaking, I bet if we were to open her up we'd find the PVC near the hip joints broken or split off.
This sadly is very familiar to an action figure collector like myself lol, but she can't be superglued back together like an action figure- and she costs alot more too!
Luckily alot of her clothes fit Stephanie as well, so clothewise it's not a total loss.

This just has me worrying more about what future problems I will face. I mainly worry about her legs. The neck is something that is not moved much and I only move it a couple times to get her into the box. But my worry is if she can't stand up any more. I still take pictures of her in outfits and if she loses the functions of her legs, then that is a big, big issue. This is why I was considering the Ex-Lite to use for photography work, but here-in would lie the problem. The Ex-Lite is a different size. The only items of Eryka's that would fit her would be the one size fits most items. So if I got to the point of needing a replacement doll, I would have to get one similar in size to Eryka. Most of the bottoms I have for her are stretchy material, so I would have to look more into the top area. So a doll with a similar bust / waist dimension...a small, would be in order. Cost wise, it would be better to have a doll made to her specs and as of now, I think only Yuri would do that. It might be more expensive, but the cost would be offset in my not having to buy a new wardrobe.

Sadly, the only way to save these Happy Dolls permanently is if a new kind of joint could replace the existing ones. One that would adapt to the PVC skeleton. I think the shoulder and hip joints should be replaced with a high friction ball joint anyway.

More sad is that I think for "them" they're more interested to have people buy replacement dolls than making dolls that won't break.
I suppose if standing becomes an issue, one of those manequin stands may be an option.

I would think that these options would be too much of an expense and a time hassle. The only saving grace with these options is that one doesn't have to 'rebuy' clothing. But then again, you could always get a doll that has similar measurements and thus may only have to replace some of a given wardrobe.

Still someone that is very good with tools might be able to cut out the old joints and install a high friction ball joint at the shoulders and hips and a similar one way joint for the arms and knees could yield good results, but one would really know what type and what grade to replace those joints with otherwise a couple years down the road you might end up with the same issues. I think a spring pressured joint that applies force using the pressure of a spring would probably work well as when the joint itself wears a bit, the spring would automatically compensate. It could be possible to look into posable mannequins as those are used in a commercial environment and could have the proper joints that could handle constant repositioning. But I would gather it could be an expensive proposition AND you would have to have joints that would fit the tubular frame of the Dagmar dolls.

Hmmmm, difficult to say, but as you pointed out that would entail quite a bit of dismantling and then comes the issue of putting it all back together correctly. I think it would probably be better for them to use the basic figure and shape of the Dagmar doll and built one of their own. I think that would be much faster than to try and dismantle the doll, remove the skeleton components and then try to assemble a skeleton inside of the skin. If you think of it and how detailed the hands are alone, that would be a tremendously difficult task. It is far easier for them to create a skeleton and skin based on the shape.

What you mentioned above, only a private owner would do. The bad thing is that to properly fix the Dagmar skeleton it would entail replacing a total of 8 joints, 4 ball or up-down-side-side joints and four up-down joints. The best way is use a joint style that is proven to last. Then the old joints have to be cut out and hopefully there will be enough material left to mount the new joints on. Most likely not. So my guess is that the upper arm and upper leg "bones" would have to be replaced (since that one is cut on both ends anyway).

Still it is a lot of work. I would only undertake something like that IF I had another doll.

So I think the best CURRENT option would be to have Yuri at Textile Doll create a body that has similar dimensions to the Dagmar Doll so this way I can use nearly all of my clothing on her. I think one change I would make is to reduce the hips a bit. This would put her in-line as a uniform size small so this way I can finally buy her full dresses.

There are just too many variables and really the only thing to do is talk with Yuri. So far that is the best option available now.

Sounds like a plan. I'm sure making a body to spec is no prob for him if he could make my Jewel. If he'll even adept it for Dagmar head, even better!

Yes, this still sounds like the best option, although certainly not an inexpensive one. But having a chat with him would be in order first. It is just that I know he would probably get me into a sale and right now I am not working AND I don't have that closet built yet. But one thing is certain, when I do build the closet, I do want it big enough to hold two dolls. It is clear that I will be getting another one because I do eventually want to do something to fix Eryka somehow.

Yes definitely. Did you ever get on to the website for the Valentina Girls sex doll site? How this is a fairly new plush doll that came on the market and they have an awesome website that offers much for their product in terms of flexibility. However, they don't really have a good look to them. They are even more out there and cartoonish looking than Teddy Babes, but they offer a lot. They even have skeleton options in terms of offering no internal skeleton to a semi-flexible one to one that is more rigid. But the proportions on the dolls are way out there and don't even get me started on the faces. Yet, they are not meant for glamour or posing at all, they are meant for one thing and that is sex. They are very much on portability and are big on the no skeleton version primarily for someone that travels. But the main thing I was getting at is their website and the options they offer. Very impressively done:

Oh, no, I wouldn't buy one of these. They are not very attractive at all. VERY cartoonish and body proportions are FAR from realistic. What I was commenting on was the website itself in the way it was laid out and the options the company offered. So I was commenting on the company. The product itself is far from desirable. Teddy Babes at least makes an attempt at creating the woman shape. Their faces are cartoonish, but I have noticed over the years, they are getting more and more human like in proportions.

I know Teddy Babes is a step back for me, but this is a US based company and they are made here as well. Also, it does seem like they listen to their customers too. My big concern though was the wire skeleton. It doesn't seem like it is PRONE to breaking, but I have read some instances where it can break. But there were only three such instances documented here, so I reckon that the failure rate is pretty low with them. But the biggest disadvantage is that it doesn't seem like they do customization work and that has me pointing back to Textile Doll again. I think I am going to have to contact Yuri and see what he can do.
