Simple underwater effect with GIMP

No matter how great your camera might be, it is how you apply your skills that makes the difference between an OK shot and a great shot. Here you can talk technical, talk creative, share your techniques, lighting, and digital editing. This is where we can all help each other to take better photos.
If you post a photo here and are looking for a critique, you should be prepared for honest criticism even if it hurts. It will only help to make us better photographers.

Simple underwater effect with GIMP

Post by hansdampf21 »

Hello,

i have created a picture of my doll laying on an air mattress inside a pool.

While the picture was already okay, i thought i still had to enhance something.
So i came up with the idea of letting her right foot look like being 'under water'.
I've then used an effect which could be found on "Filter->Distort->Waves" within GIMP on a selection of the layer.
So it looked like this:

This is just a little trick i recently found out and wanted to share.

Kind regards,
Hansdampf

Greetings Hansdampf -
Cool - I like it. So.... does this mean Lena is going skinny dipping soon? :-)

Hello Agent D.
Well, actually Lena thought about this, too.
This is how it looks then:

Hm. Not fully satisfying, but it works for me :)
