Update:

Ok, so the parts showed up today and John had made sure I had everything I needed. 1 upper arm bone with all the bolts and washers needed to attach it to the existing shoulder and forearm.

So, time for more cutting. I opened up the arm along the inner seam from armpit to below elbow, and also make a small opening on the outside of the elbow to allow access to the nut there (same as when I tightened her left elbow not so long back)

Remove the old bone, and then fit the new one. Talk about fiddly! you have 2 U sections, 4 nylon washers, 1 centre piece, 2 steel washers, and 2 compression washers and your working blind trying not to cause too much tearing. yeah.

unfortunately there was some tearing, almost inevitable on something like this really

But by the looks of things, it will close up very neatly

I'm electing to do a 2 stage closure, maybe even 3 tage depending on how things move along. I will begin by closing the arm up and leave the armpit for stage 2. Depending on how the armpit looks like it will close I may do that in multiple stages

Looks like the worst is over? Hope the rest goes well. Nice to see DS provides some solid support as well. Was there a charge for the parts or shipping?

There was, but I feel it would be unfair to say exactly what was offered and set a precedent for DS. Suffice to say they were extremely fair.

Update:

90% there I think. Some good, some not so good, some way better than hoped for.

First the arm. The inner arm sealed up well, the scar is small and the bond is good. The Elbow section didnt line up as smoothly as i would have liked and there is a definite lip along a few inches at the elbow. I still have to seal the outer elbow cut though, so I will either recut the inner side and realign, or I will just add a little clear silicone to bolster the lip. not sure yet

The armpit is way better than hoped for! Considering you cant see it when closed, it was a case of smear and pray (with care not to get silicone where it shoudnt be. It still needs a little clean up to remove some wispy bits that cured outside the main body, and maybe a thin coat of clear silicone over the top to smooth it all out a touch, but nothing much needed

Given the major surgery I think the scarring looks very reasonable!

I'm glad the worst is over and that she is recovering well and big plus to DS for supplying spare parts. Not all manufacturers seem to have that kind of support.

Final Update:

Everything is sorted now. I did recut the inner elbow and reseal it whilst i did the outer cut and everything is now smooth and lined up.

As you can see theres nothing noticeable from the outside of the arm

The inside of the arm is more than acceptable, and even under harsher light and inspection the scaring is minimal

She also got a nice brushed cotton night shirt today, so we are looking forward to cosy bedtime snuggles later

So glad to hear surgery was a success!

Please give her lots of hugs from us and tell her girls with scars are cool, although I must say - for the type of surgery she has very little scarring. I love all the gals in my life who have scars.

I remember doing a huge repair on my dolls arm. I could never get it quite right. She ended up with a scare that i got used to after a while.The huge scare is understandable though. She's still beautiful.
