any tips for getting her to stand?

Post by marlyg »

I can't seem to get my 148 to stand on her own. She's standing right now, but I had to brace her hands on the desk..so leaning is prolly more like it.

any tips?

Hi, well first important point to make is that our gals are not designed to stand on their own, providing she has the standing foot bolts then your gal will be able to stand providing that she has another point of contact to ensure that she doesn't topple over. So you can stand her against a wall so that she is ever so slightly leaning against it, or by a desk or table with a hand on it to keep her steady but it's important to do this very carefully as any slight movement and she can come crashing down and she will get hurt!

Hi again, further to my last post I've had a look and found a pic of my Sarah, who is also a YL148, here she is standing with her back to the closet and has a hand resting on the bed post. This is a pretty safe way to stand your gal as she has a couple of points of contact aside from the floor. You can get a bit more adventurous but just be aware that it doesn't take much for them to topple over, feet need to be about shoulder width apart and legs nice and straight, when you get her up you can make small adjustments till she feels about as balanced as she can be. Of course it's different with different dolls, I also have a WM145 with standing feet that can stand really well and I have actually had her stand perfectly balanced without any support but I didn't take my eyes off her for a second!

Yes, the standing foot option is for "weight-bearing", not free-standing. But there are lots of creative ways to make her appear casual or even standing without support.

I agree with the others that the feet are for weight bearing, but i have managed to get mine to freestand a few times. It takes forever though. Every time you move her hand or head to get the right pose you throw the balance off and have to try to find her balancing point again. And even then she's very unstable. In fact, lately I don't really even try to do it anymore. If you do get her to balance freely, you have to stay right next to her. She could topple at any moment. :P

My girl is only 140cm, so that might make it slightly easier than with a 148.

My doll used to freestand quite well at first, but one of her knee joints has since loosened slightly. Learned that she was unable to do it without support at the weekend as I was taking photos. One minute she was in the viewfinder, next minute, THUD, as she faceplanted herself. No harm done as she landed on thick carpet. Had a near heart attack though.

Not to high jack the post, but the topic begs the question, what new product/technology has come to market or has been home invented for use as a doll stand that can be photoshopped out?
Now THAT is something I would go after in a very big way.

Very good tips from everyone. Another good tip for standing her is having a good arch in her back, this will give her better balance. I learned this off of Alottahope!

I will certainly second that last point, I've done that today with Athena and she is balanced really well and it has the added bonus of making her lovely boobs more prominent!

Hi Arthur1960, yes, the bewbies do stick out nicely! :D

It still takes me a few times to get the right position, not an easy task.

Hi tongue-O-matic, yes I know what you mean but I've found that my WM145 and WM158 both stand really well and eventually you get the knack of positioning the legs right and they do look good when you get it right!

I give you credit, your 158 is a big doll! I know it has to be difficult to keep her steady and position her legs outward and bend them at the knees until you get it right. But like you said, practice makes perfect! :D

I put a stripper pole up where I shoot. It works great for the 3rd point of balance. It is 4 feet away from the wall so I get that separation from the backdrop for the illusion of standing. Usually the pole is visible on top of her head so I just crop it out. Then photo shop out the bottom of the pole. Usin PS to get rid of one pole is way easier than 3 legs of a stand.
