Weekly summary 13/2019

Post by Dollstudio »

Hi,

this is a summary of what was going in the doll world in the 13th week of 2019, as far as we at Dollstudio & DS Doll Europe were concerned.

Also, we have the New products listing on all three Dollstudio websites. It is sorted in reverse chronological order, so the latest additions to our portfolio are on top of the listing:

As usual, confirmation pics are in our Twitter feed and on the respective product pages.

4) Other updates.

a) Indigo's CWA. I am currently updating the TPE doll product pages for Indigo's cold-welding diffusion adhesive (CWA), so you can add it easily as an extra to any doll order.

So far I have worked through most Doll Forever, Piper Doll, Doll House 168, and YL Doll product pages. The other brands will follow step by step.

b) New payment methods. Starting in April, we will add new payment methods to complement the three existing ones - Paypal, wire bank transfer and SEPA bank transfer.

The latter one has the advantage to be fast, secure and to have no or at least very low banking fees - but only as long as you are within the Euro zone. Several banks in EU countries without Euro currency do not play along nicely with the SEPA regulations, especially in Eastern Europe and the UK. So for starters we added a native bank account for UK bank transfers in GBP to better accomodate to the requirements of customers on the Brexit island. A native UK bank account has the advantage to be relatively fast and to cost no or very low transaction fees, as long as you have a UK bank account.

The idea behind this is to reduce the dependency on Paypal and their substantial transaction fees. On average, Paypal charges something around 5% fees, in some cases even 5,79%. That creates an overhead of about €120 for a €2,000 sale. Our bank currently supports 40 currencies, so we will extend the range of native bank transfers step by step.

Thank you for this update, Sandro!

Yikes, those PayPal fee rates are spooky. Does it matter where the $$ originates from (I'm in the U.S.), or what method is used, credit card vs. bank draft? I have the impression that some small businesses can expect to eat like 4% on a credit card transaction, but 5-6% really starts to chip away at the bottom line.

Indeed. But to put this in balance, basically all banking fees are kind of 'spooky'. Paypal just skims off a percentage, which makes particularily less attractive for larger payments.

For example, our old bank charged a flat fee for all international transfers of €32.50 (~ $36.50). That makes you think twice when you just want to purchase a $20 item from abroad, but it's still relatively fair compared to the rates other established banks charge. Our new bank account is at Revolut, and what they charge is a lot more reasonable. If yau are also at Revolut, they will charge you zilch ;-)

However, for multi-currency payments via SWIFT I need some test customers from areas like Australia, New Zealand or Japan.

Let's take Indigo's CWA and make it a limited time offer for $40 shipped. That's about NZD 59 (New Zealand) or AUD 56 (Australia) or CAD 54 (Canada) or MXN 763 (Mexico) or JPY 4.469 (Japan).

What I need from you is feedback how much you bank really charges for a SWIFT bank transfer in your currency (so they can not charge you for currency conversion), if you choose the charging scheme "OUR".

It helps if you have made SWIFT bank transfers before. And most definitely, check with your bank in advance how much they are going to charge you! (if they are charging unreasonable fees, we can still switch to Paypal which has multi-currency built-in).

Also, I am interested in test purchases via SWIFT from Switzerland (CHF), Norway (NOK), Poland (PLN), Czech Republic (CZK), Denmark (DKK) and Sweden (SEK). These countries are somehow tied to the SEPA area, but still have their old (pre-Euro) currencies. A SWIFT bank transfer in your local currency should theoretically have low fees. But I'd like to know how it really is.

So if you are living in one of the aforementioned areas and need Indigo's CWA without buying a complete doll from us, here is your chance to get it for a friendly price ;-)

And yes, the CWA can be shipped worldwide. It's labeled properly so it will pass even demanding customs checks which remove the unlabeled Chinese glue from packages.
