New Member in Japan

Post by Corran Fox »

Hello All,

I have been lurking and reading up on dolls for some time and have finally saved enough to make my first purchase (EX-Lite). I just wanted to say what a wonderful resource the forum is and hope to be able to add to it as a learn. If anyone needs help with Japanese stuff let me know!

Thanks

Welcome, Corran Fox! Glad that you joined us. If it's not asking to much, would you care to share your perspective on the current state of what I hear called the Japanese "Herbavore" movement as it applies to doll lifestyle there?

From what I know, dolls are becoming more popular. Adult stores are stocking more of them and expanding their inventory. My local store for example has just gone from having only 2 kinds for sale (a DS doll and Ex-lite) to now having the entire DS body range in stock and on display. The thing is in Japan has so many things a guy can get into (Think Otaku) that perhaps dolls have more competition than in the US or Europe. Dolls are popular for the same reasons in Japan as they are anywhere else but they are the new girls on the block for sure.

what you have to keep in mind is "Herbavore" usually refers only to an approach to women not necessarily life (Otaku and hikikomori are different but can overlap). A "Herbavore" usually has a job (even a good one), works long hours, does lots of activities, goes out with friends), they just are not out looking for a girlfriend/wife. It is usually because life is so demanding in every other area that relationships seem too difficult to manage on top of it all. Japan is not as casual with relationships as the US, especially outside of Tokyo. Japanese culture is highly structured and demanding so "taking it easy" in terms of relationships is seen as a bigger deal than say in the US. From my experience it is not only men but women as well who just would rather avoid the complications of having a relationship and opt for something else to fill the space.

SuperNothing, hope this helps. Is there something specific you wish to know?

Hello and welcome! :glou: Looking forward to seeing your EX-Lite lady when she arrives. :multi:
No matter how pretty she is, there is a guy out there somewhere who is tired of her shit!

Girlfriends are for guys who haven't found the right doll yet.

I feel much better now that I've given up hope.

I am not sure if there is a rule that posts have to be in English but...

Thank you, Corran Fox. I looked up Otaku and hikikomori and understand those lifestyles better now. I guess I'm curious about how you see "Herbavores" that choose dolls over RG's (Real Girls) and if there is any difference in acceptance by society as it is still considered "creepy" by many here in the west, though I expect that to change just like the more common acceptance of pornography. Some of us look to Japan as a starting ground of many technological and cultural developments eventually embraced here in the west. Do you think doll culture may be another example of this?
